what can be causing my Internet Explorer 6 to hang CONSTANTLY?

when I have two or three browser windows open, sometimes it hangs. I can't scroll or click anything. This happens every ten minutes and I am tired of alt ctrl del>end task. Is this a hardware conflict? how can I fix this, thanks....

Original Gainward Geforce 3 with crystal orb and artic silver 3 clocked at 240/500 (ti-500 default speed)
Philips Acoustic Edge 5.1
IBM 40gig 60GXP hdd
and I am running windows XP.

i also have comcast cable
