What cables and lengths do I need for an Antec SX1040?

Hi,

I'm just about to build my first pc and I bought an Antec SX1040B case (haven't received it yet). I need to know what length cables I will need for this case? I had heard something about a longer IDE or FDD cable needed with this case. I'd like to get everything that I need ordered.

Also.. I was thinking about rounded cables. I'm sure that they give you better ventilation, but are they reliable? Should I just stick with the flat cables?

TIA,

Sal

hey salvador,

i'm using this same case right now. i bought 24" rounded ide cables, and they were the perfect length to reach devices in the top two positions. i'd say go with one of these unless u don't plan on using the top two. before my rounded cables, i had my 5 1/4" drives in the two lowest positions, since that was as far as the normal ide cable could reach.

hope this helps.

So.. I need 2 - 24" cables if I plan on using the top two drive bays?

What about the Floppy cable? What length should I get?

Thanks again,

Sal

Unless you are very very sure, do not get 1 foot! 18 inches is the minimum! And yes you will need at least 18 inches to reach those top bays (24 for just to be safe).

If you want to save money, go measure the distance with some measuring tape.

Buy your rounded cables cheap right here: http://svcompucycle.com/roundedcables.html

I'm using 18" rounded IDE cables to the top bays in my SX1040 and there's room to spare. My MoBo is an Asus P4B266 and the IDE slots are just above the centerline of the board. You may need 24" if your IDE slots are down near the bottom of the board.

It all depends on the motherboard. If you have 2 optical drives on the top 2 bays sharing one IDE cable, you would need to go with a 24.
