What version of OS X are you using? Safari on 10.5 is grey like the rest of the OS, not sure about 10.4 since I haven't used it in um... 6 months?

Got my first true taste of OS X a few days ago and after 30 minutes with Safari, I ran back to Firefox with open arms. Safari is nice and all but I'm probably just too used to being able to customize things like I want (like disabling underlined links without downloading a 3rd party app... :roll
The only thing that I've found I hate about Safari is the fact that you can't choose to open certain files when you download. It's either/or with Safari and that's annoying at time. I usually find that I prefer to save the files about 90% of the time, so I setup a Stack for Downloads that just lists the most recent and it's not a HUGE inconvenience.
I've loved safari but it's been showing more and more beachballs of late. Firefox is far too ugly comparatively. Any good themes to go with osx?
Leopard, in general, has been showing more and more beachballs as of late. I'm not switching back to Tiger, but I think I've definitely installed something that isn't doing too well with my system.

I started using Safari last night for the first time since it got updated recently and I'm liking it more than I did initially. I don't know if this is placebo effect or not, but it seems like the text rendering in Safari is better than it is in Camino. I really need to find some way to qualitatively compare Safari and Camino on my machine....

You could take screen shots of them rendering the same text (zoomed to not include any other identifying info obviously). Then show them side by side to people and ask them to pick which one looks better. You could even post them here and put up a poll

Yeah do that. I REALLY dont know which browser to use. There doesn't seem to be a good browser for OS X.
I really think Shiira is the best though. You should add that into your comparison as well.
I switch between both safari 3.1 and Firefox 3 nightlies. The one major thing about firefox I don't like is the lack of PDF viewing. But I also love its location bar. Safari is crazy fast, but not as robust.

I was telling you, SafariAdBlock is great! Free, small in size, installs quickly and blocks 99% of all the ads on teh web. You should also get Inquisitor, it is by Dave Watanabe who I ordinarily wouldn't support, but Inquisitor is free, and the best search box on any browser, any OS.

yep! got that too....i honestly preferred the old version without any of this black background crap...
I want to like Safari because of its speed, but there are four reasons why I like Firefox better.
1. Bookmarks: I have a huge number of bookmarks organized in many nested folders. In Safari I have to click on many tiny gray triangles to get the link I want. In Firefox, I only have to click once on the bookmark menu and then once on the link. Also, I really don't like that Safari displaces the current webpage while opening the bookmark menu.
2. RSS feeds: I have several feeds that I check daily in my toolbar. While it's nice that Safari shows the number of new items in each feed, I want to be able to click on the feed and get a drop down list. Instead Safari replaces the current webpage. Firefox does the drop down list just right.
3. Add-ons: no comparison.
4. Rendering: Too many websites don't render properly or simply don't work at all in Safari. No problems in Firefox.
Other than a slower startup and exit, I've never had any speed problems when loading pages in Firefox.
Also, I'm using MultiClutch so I can make use of all of the trackpad gestures the way I want. Safari no longer has an advantage in that department.

You can do your own list, but it can't be added directly to a form box (like I believe you can with Firefox), you have to do it via URL.
