What brands do you shun?

It seems you can find someone who hates any brand.

I have to agree with:

>>Packard Bell - Thank god their gone.... but...Compaq lives on
>>Microsoft whenever possible on principle...

And I'll add Mitsumi to the list.

eMachines - a friend insisted on buying one instead of letting me build one for her. I haven't heard any complaints yet, but it is a POS. And could they have loaded it with any more useless software?

I've had no problems with the Creative CDROMs I've installed on machines. They are a bit loud but cheap. Same goes for the Maxtors, except they are nice and quiet.

I'm not that happy with my Lexmark printer. Their supposedly waterproof ink isn't, and it takes too long to start printing.

I may not use Abit for my next machine. One got RMAed out of 3 I bought and two were problematic with the floppy drives.

Creative because of the lives
ALi for everything they make
misumi, they just suck
ECS for too many reasons to list.
Dlink for their cards constantly dying in less than 6 months
lexmark for making it cheaper to buy a new printer than get a new ink cartridge
microsoft software and hardware

Thermaltake
Compaq - Horror stories
Dell
Gateway - Horror stories
Alienware - Horror stories
Creative
Promise and IBM - Sometimes
eMachines - Horror stories
Lian Li - Their cases are overrated, Coolermaster is so much better and easier to build with

I shun intel... well not all the time, just the first models of the P4, they weren't that great.
Hmm... What do I shun? Well I would have to say that I don't really like compaq, I am not a big fan of western digital, but I may give them another chance some day, I don't like creative that much, although I am sure that they do make some good products. I guess that there aren't really any companies that I would never buy from again, but there are some that I don't really like right now.

<putting flame suit on>

Tyan.

Read here for what I'm getting at.

I know it sounds trivial to a lot of you, but real SUPPORT is what I value. I expect to eventually run into a compatibility issue, since I don't upgrade every 3 months, so it's important to me that a company support their products well.

Unfortunately, Tyan has consistantly proven to ignore my requests for help. 🙁

Dell - for Inspiron (and even some Lattitude) notebooks that don't hold up

Epson - for inkjet printers that simply die (because of clogged / corroded print heads) too soon; good print quality, but not for long enough

As for Creative and ATI and some of the others, well I'll forgive almost anything as long as I eventually get working drivers...
