What are the premium brands for BD-R media in terms of reliability and long term viability? What stores would you recommend for them?

The best stuff isn't really from a company but by the company sourced to make the products. If you can find BD blank discs with a media ID manufacturer of 'TAIYOYUDEN' or 'MITSUBISHI' then you'll have some great media.

Or just go with what's generally been good, either made by them or manufactured by a good company and packaged by someone else. Verbatim (not life series), Sony, JVC all make great DVDs and CDs so I'd recommend them for BD media as well.

I have always gone with Sony for quality disks over the years, and they have never let me down. I still have some Sony CDs from 1995 I burned and they will still load right up 16 years later. If they have lasted this long already, then my guess is that they would last as long as a human lifespan, if you kept them stored properly.

mitsubishi rayon & taiyudon continue to supply good quality thermal sensitive dye compounds forming the recording layer(s) of dvd & bd storage media - also market under their own names

as example only - there are many others - www.supermediastore.com - www.videohelp.com etal

imation philips mits taiy verbatim depending on price & others all quite functional

forget 10 storage - & store cool dry out-of-sun always

and take care as worldwide plague of counterfeit dvd/bd storage media has become quite convincing in appearance...

www.t-yuden.com

most common - dominant - 2x speed, 4x appearing some regions - few high speed bd-r's, hardware just appearing ie 10x/12x lite-on, lg pioneer samsung others...

try to determine date of mfr of bd-r disk pack BEFORE buying... established brands always have mfr date on package label...

Verbatim (aka Mitsubishi if importing from Japan) all the way, only 2 bad discs in 3+ years of burning hundreds, and both of those were RE that had had quite a few rewrites.

mitsubishi is largest mfr of bd-r/bd-rw today

yes odm's to verbatim

shop mits or tai yudon --- taiy odm's several but not sony

sony optical group in space...

lastly --- buy smaller qty's as this media req's careful storage --- mfr date sensitive
