First of all, do i need a special kind of Dual Channel RAM, or can i just buy 2 X 256MB PC3200 sticks?

second, what brand should i get? Are Micron, Samsung, or OCS good brands? or should i stick to kingston, crucial, corsair? i have to keep the price under 100 though, thats the problem...

I haven't had much problem with getting Dual channel to work as long as you get the same brand and the same speed of ram.
You don't need to get the special TwinX or what not cause you end up paying more for it in the long run. I would not get the Low latency ram either unless you want to pay a huge premium.
It really depends on what brand you like. I like Corsair and that's what I have in my machine, but alot of people will say go with Kingston HyperX, OCZ, Buffalo cause it's cheap, Mushkin, or even Crucial for PC3200.

It depends on how much you want to pay and what brand you are loyal to. All brands have the pros and cons. If you want to have 2 sticks of 256megs and PC3200, you are not going to be able to get very good quality, if any at all. OK, looking at Newegg, for $100 bucks or less, I would get 2 x 256meg PC3200 of the Buffalo CL2.5 or the Geil Golden Dragon. That's the best you can do for the money. From the ratings that people give, it's not too bad of a deal.

im still stuck on what RAM to get...
i looked at the GEIL 512MB(2x256MB) PC-3200 (400MHz) Dual DDR RAM, 6 Layer Lower Noise PCB Copper Heat Spreader, Dual Channel SPD Enhanced Model# GL5123200DC and it looks good. it would, because i know nothing about RAM.

only brand i ever used was mushkin, so i dont have a preffered brand, but mushkin is way to expensive for me.

but im going to be overclocking a P4 2.4C to 3Ghz and i think i need to run my RAM at 5:4 settings, so i need it to be able to do that and be very stable... if that doesnt make any sense, its because i dont know much about RAM settings.

so, whats the best RAM that i can get for ~110 total dollars? that will do what i just described?

Buffalo with the winbond chips is hands down the best value in RAM right now. Many will echo this.

I've always preferred Crucial (Micron) but that has a great deal to do with their lifetime warranty and customer service. I remember in some reviews of the 865PE and 875P motherboards memory brand did make a difference in performance and stability. Crucial had pretty good marks in that review if I recall correctly.

I have used crucial in 90% of my personal and family builds...I have 512mb PC3200 at the moment and am gonna get another stick soon for Dual Channel.

I like Crucial too but have also had great luck with Corsair and KingMAX brands.
