What brand of memory?

I have a Gigabyte MB (GA-8IPE1000 PRO-G) and I am looking to purchase 2 sticks of 512mb pc3200 DDR Ram. I want to get the most stable yet overclockable ram that I can without spending a fortune. I see on Newegg a few different brands. Is Geil a good brand? Better then Mushkin or Crucial? How about that Golden Dragon series?

I really wanna try to keep it between $80 - $90 per stick. Please give me some input.

I have used Geil before and they are really hit and miss, sometimes you get a great stick that overclocks well, other times you can barely keep it at the rated speed. One good thing about Geil memory is that it loves voltage, so you can really crank it up without having to worry too much. In that price range you can get some Corsair ValueRAM, which I hear overclocks pretty well when you give it a little more juice.

I've also used Geil before but haven't had much luck 4x 512mb of their value Pc3200 memory would not work for me even at 2.8V so I just gave up and got some Corsair ValueRAM which worked fine at 2.5V at it's rated speed. I've actualy heard good things about Geil's higher Tier memory but I'd stay Far Far away from their Value memory. Just my 2 cents...

i bought four sticks of the Geil ultra DDR400 ram from newegg. i'm almost positive its the same ram chips they use in their ultra 500 series. i got it to pull 500mhz with ease. they handle 3volts within spec so theres lot of room to grow.

i also recommended them to a friend,who has two also running in his machine, no complaints here.

got 433mhz@ 2.5 6-3-3
got 500mhz@ 3 7-4-4

edit: the golden dragon series is suppose to be iffy for overclocking. even with the heavy thick heatsinks on my DIMMs,when your pumping 3+ volts through them they get pretty hot.

After having a rma experience with Kingston in which they asked few questions and sent out a new chip next day, I have been going with them ever since. Good ram too.

I'd go with the Crucial, it has great compatability, especially with the Athlon 64's

I have 2x Corsair XMS2700c2 and they work great in my dual channel environment and taking into account. they aren't twins.

my rule for systems is this:

if it needs to be really stable, use crucial (no oc'ing, just stable stock ram)

if you need to overclock, go with corsair (get the low-latency stuff, of course)

I'd say get the corsair XMS. If you go for the Twin-x, it may be a
bit cheaper. (Low Latency, of course.)

What does it mean when the CAS Latency is 2.5-4-4 as opposed to just regular 2.5 or even 2-3-3???
