What brand of fridge do you have and are you happy with it?

We have a traditional, basic Whirlpool, freezer on top. It works. It was cheap. It isn't the quietest fridge but not super loud. The thermostat control is conveniently placed at the top, front of the fridge section. Unfortunately, it is also fairly free moving and was causing marital strife as we tried to figure out why the other spouse kept resetting the temperature to be too warm. It turned out that every time the door closed, the top of the flip-up butter rack cover on the door would brush the control, setting it warmer and warmer. We taped down the control and marital bliss was restored.

I have a GE, probably came off the same assembly line as a dozen other brands. It keeps stuff cold on one side and frozen on the other. It has an ice maker and a water dispenser, which will be the first two items to break unless the cheap plastic internal water line bursts which will kill both of them at the same time. With a little luck it will last ten years.

I'm using a Whirlpool bottom freezer. After 9-10 yrs, the only part that fails is the mainboard, which that can be had for 50 bucks at the big A. While failing the first 2x, the compressor had hard duty for for failed defrost cycle (mainboard culprit), and paid through the nose for repair. The third time, I repaired quickly myself which is cake. I'd buy it again at this point.

edit did not install the icemaker which is bound to fail. I went as far to remove the mechanism.

LG, about 6 years, so far so good. Ma has a Samung and the main board went out twice. I put surge protectors on both and have been fine ever since.

I bought a 55" LG tv for my bedroom. The only way we could make the piece of crap work properly was to plug in a Roku stick. Never ever will I buy another LG product.

I've been following this thread for about a month since my wife has been researching her new refrigerator purchase since last Christmas season. The behemoth Samsung fridge they stuffed in this galley kitchen of the house we bought has been on its last legs for at least a year.

The Frigidaire counter-depth unit she ordered Wednesday

She got it for $2200 out the door. So basically the tax, haul away, delivery, and installation are what ate up some of the discounts.

The website said delivery would be December 16th, they called her today and said the delivery would be January 12.

Kenmore bottom freezer (made by Whirlpool) bought in early 2002. Made it to late 2019 before it's first repair, a $12 Defrost Thermostat that stuck open, so it wouldn't defrost. After repairing that, I noticed it was taking 2-3 tries to start the compressor. So I repaced the Start/Overload relay for $42. It's been fine since, and still looks new. I never installed the ice maker, it's still in a box.

These older designs are simple to repair, they have no circuit boards or complicated BS. Parts prices are reasonable. I can fix anything but the compressor myself, so I'll keep it as long as possible. New ones seem to be a total crap shoot, I'm sure this one will last longer than a brand new one.

A top freezer GE we have for 15 years and going strong. A Frigidaire side by side doors that we have in the garage for almost 4 years now. So far both have been rock solid.

Frigidaire. Happy with it but shortly after purchasing we noticed the freezer door was dented along the top edge. Most likely happened during some point in transport rather than in manufacturing process.

The problem was it disrupted the seal, and cool air was leaking out. In the end we got a new door installed through a local repair shop that handled the warranty, but it took almost ONE YEAR for the part to come in!

I was able to find the right shape stick on weatherstripping material to sort of patch the leaking area, somewhat until it was fixed.

Whirlpool Sidekick (17.7cu' all frig) bought in 1999 and the only maintenance was changing a noisy condenser fan motor 20 years in (still worked fine just got occasionally noisy).
The matching 17.7cu' freezer hasn't needed a thing. $1400 for the pair in 1999 supposedly is equal to $2580 today, yet they actually sell for about $4-5k today, when you can find them now.

Just bought an additional HiSense 21' upright freezer, that pup sucks the door shut (vacuum seal??) when you close it. Tight enough I had to put a 1x2 strip in front of the wheels or it would move when you pulled on the door handle even when completely filled ! Does -18F, loving it !

Have a LG webOS TV for ... 5yrs, working like a champ. also enjoyed all the build in apps, would by again.

I have a Kenmore and it works fine. I find the more classic brands are the best, like Kenmore, Frigidaire etc. Avoid Samsung, LG and all the TV brands basically.

Interesting. The web OS and apps are what I hate. The remote needs to lose about 15 buttons as well. I may toss the piece of crap and get something that works for me.
The wife and I just went through the same thing with phones. New service came with new phones that are so polluted it's obtrusive. She dumped hers and went back to her 3 year old Moto. I may do the same.
I'm old and not a fan of being bombarded with useless carp the only point of which is making me feel connected. If I ever have the need for that feeling, I'll go chat with my neighbor. It's likely one of us will be dead before that happens.

Bosch. I tend to stick with them as they seem to hit that not too expensive, not too cheap feeling point. Plus when ever I get a guy in to repair something they are always pleased that it's a Bosch and tell me that they are reliable and easy to fix.

Kenmore doesn't make anything, never did. They rebadge others. Currently their fridges are Dawoo. Good luck finding parts.

That probably goes for most brands really. Hardly anyone actually makes anything anymore.

Whirlpool, the one that used to make most Kenmore appliance still makes their own. They also make Maytag, KitchenAid, JennAir, Amana, and probably more. About the only brand I trust.

My sister has a Beko and they're really nice. Apparently popular in Europe and making their way over here? She has something similar to this

One recommendation from a home Reno channel I follow (the guy is a professional contractor in Canada) is to keep a fridge simple. don't get crazy features as they are more prone to failure.

We have a Hotpoint which is about 13 years old and has lasted reasonably well, though one thing that irked me was the "5 year warranty" which doesn't include labour.

We have a Samsung with the freezer on the bottom and french doors on top. Works great so far for the last 6 years except for on issue which I have gotten corrected. The ice maker tends to overfill and the ice blocks the full sensor. Then the cubes would get frozen together in place and I would have to manually break them loose to get it working again. So now what I do is turn off the ice maker during the day and then turn it on at night after supper and this allows it to catch up and refill the ice bin. If you use a lot of ice you may not have this issue.
