The thing I'm unsure about are the extended warranties Sears sells. Are they really worth 3x as much as the same length Home Depot warranty?

We're shopping for some new appliances and there are so many choices it feels like a crap shoot. Right now we have a samsung fridge, which for the most part is well built but we've had problems with the ice maker. We're looking for new appliances, fridge, stove, nuker and dishwasher.

I bought a house last year with an LG refrigerator, and I won't get another one. Virtually everything plastic inside was very flimsy and had to be replaced, and parts were quite hard to find for it. (Thank goodness for RepairClinic.com! Nobody else I tried had the shelves and drawers I needed.)

For its grand finale, the cheap ice maker line (which is permanently affixed to the refrigerator) decided to split, doing $7,000 in damage to my floors. I'm still dealing with the fallout on that one.

So yeah... LG makes great TVs, but steer clear of their appliances, IMO.

For what it's worth, my Whirlpool Gold dishwasher has been absolutely fantastic, as has my Bosch front-load washing machine.

Hit up Repairclinic, Parts Select, etc to find what breaks on the things. Then hit up EBay to look at prices for parts. For fridges and whatever needs to utilize a compressor, check out the display model's compressor and who made it.

Appliances will break these days. There is no escaping the inevitable. The only thing to deal with it is to find one has one, vitals that do not break; two, cheap parts; and three, is easy to self service. As far as microwaves go, bite the bullet and get something from the 90s on backwards.
