I decided on getting a 6870 ati card, I am wondering which brand I best to get? Is there a differnce between brands? Main use will be gaming

Most brands are good, XFX is considered one of the best with a double lifetime warranty (You can die twice! :awe🙂 If you have any specific questions just ask.

Always bought Sapphire and never failed me, but also for the nice babe stiker that came with the reference cards 😛

ps. stay away from Gigabyte!

I'm in the market for a new gpu and I hear xfx is good too, but on newegg's website they have 4 different types of 6870 cards at different prices, what is the difference there? I'm sorry for being such a noob.

Well friends of mine who bought gigabyte cards somehow always had problems with Gigabyte support, plus there cooling methods are not the best as I heard.

Can't say anything about their support, but Im happy with both my Gigabyte MB and Silent Cell 5750. Temps for the GPU idle at 40-42C and usually max out 66-69C on a passive heatsink.

The Asus DirectCU is a very good card imo, the dual fan XFX also has an excellent cooler. So does the Sapphire Vapor-X, but its a bit more expensive than the others.

XFX has 4 different cards on the market for 6870s:

Blower Cooler No OC

Blower Fan with OC

Dual Fan Cooler with no OC

Dual Fan Cooler with OC

I would say get the Dual Fan Cooler with no OC. The dual fans do a better job of cooling than the blower fans and you can easily bump the speed up yourself if you want.
