i'm shopping for a new cd player for my car, but i wouldnt mind getting some feedback on which and why i should get

i'm thinking about getting a JVC from circuit city for 99.99 (plan to use it for at least a year and a half or so)

i've received some advice to stick with:

Alpine
Clarion
Pioneer Premiere
JVC Digifine

is Digifine some sort of new line of JVC? (same question about Premiere for Pioneer) or are all JVC "reliable". i surely dont want my cd player to break down after a few months.

i do know clarion is good but also expensive

i'm looking for a unit at the price range of 100-130 (i am although a poor student 😛)

ah i c, i was thinking that

how about JVC digifine?

oh yeah btw, somebody told me to stay away from Kenwood units. i actually had a kenwood and it broke down. i went online to check out my problem at a forum and i saw a handfull of other ppl with the same problem as i that had a kenwood unit.

ima gonna check up on some alpine and clarion , see if they have any decent prices.

get whatever is easiest to use. firstly, unless you have a competition-level or just a highly upgraded system you're not going to hear a differences in the players. secondly, at 100$ you cant be choosy either because there are no pioneer premiers or jvc digifines that cheap. the offering you get from pioneer, alpine, clarion, etc will be barebones player that stop, play, and fast forwards. as far as reliability goes, ive never had, or heard of, a cd player breaking. ive gone through a 300$ clarion, 300$ alpine, dad has 100$ jvc, sister has 100$ jensen, sister has 200$ sony, friend has 400$ sony, etc... honestly they're all good for what they're worth.

when you have a 500$ budget, you can afford to nitpick snr ratios and DAC quality

first of all

thanx for all the responses

i'm hearing a lot of praise from pioneer and alpine

my brother just got an alpine that plays mp3/wma and i know that's out of my price range

and about the cd player malfunctioning, it has happened to a bunch of ppl that i read on at another forum, and they all had a kenwood

they said that their cd got stuck in the cd player and then it would eventually stop powering on....the EXACT same problem i'm having now, and therefore i've come to the conclusion it's defected (or rather somebody else is suggesting it is)

so now i'm probalby gonna get either the JVC which is cheap and since i'm not gonna keep this forever....but rather a year or two, it seems conveinent, but hopefully it will actually last that long

i will also look for some decent priced Pioneers

btw, sony??

i was DEFINITELY told to stay away from sony products when it comes to cd players

should i get a Panasonic??

Panasonic 45 Watt x 4 CD Receiver
Brand/Model: PAN CQDP103U

$120

or Pioneer In-Dash CD Player
Brand/Model: PIO DEH1500

for $130?

both have a rating of 4.5/5

then there's the JVC 45 x 4 CD Receiver
Brand/Model: JVC KDS590

for 99.99 , rating is 4.3/5

these are all off circuit city's website.

I'd pick the Pioneer. My cousin has a low end JVC and it just reeks of cheapness. Even the low end Pioneers have a better fit/quality finish to it.

Nak's are ok, except for the damnedable load mechanism failure rates.
Me personally. Save the money and get en Eclipse. Period. Entry level Eclipse's run around 250 i believe. VERY well worth the money.

Doesn't the panasonic have a $20 rebate? I think the Fry's by me has it on sale for like 80 bucks.

heh that's 120 bucks over my budget

if i wanted to spend 200 dollars i'd go to goodguys, get the 200 dollar Pioneer DEH-P4500MP , and get 20 dollars back (10 % off) with no sales tax either so totals out to 180

but i'll have buyers remorse because i dont want to spend too much money

i just bought one 80 gig, one 120 gig, one iomega dual drive, all that i spotted in the hot deals forum

and yeah all this within a 2 month span, for a studen that's excessive 😛

EDIT:

anybody knows anything about this one JVC KD-S890? LINK TO CD PLAYER

does the rebate apply to a specific CD model? or any panasonic cd player?? if so i'm gonna go to fry's tomorrow and check it out!

I would highly suggest Pioneer Premier...

Look here for great prices on their stuff. I just recently picked up the DEH-P750MP for $275 shipped, and it's the best head unit I have had to date after buying Kenwood Exceleons almost exclusively...

🙂
