What brand "Dremel" tool? Dremel, Black and Decker, Craftsman, etc... ?

I went with the Black and Decker RTX corded version. I didn't need more than something I could use as a drill (with the optional purchase of a dremil chuck) and for holding cutting wheels and the RTX was cheaper.

I just purchased a B&D RTX-1 and it is very cool. I have heard good things about it from people on this board.

If it'll get heavy usage, make sure to get the ball-bearing version of whatever you opt for.

I went with the RTX as well... it was $20 cheaper than the Dremel... and from my experience has more torque... Dremel had more accessories with it though... which i didn't need.

I had a battery powered Dremel that I was given years ago. Unfortunately, the battery life wasn't great, but it was a good tool anyway, and I have ended up with many various accessories for it. The battery died recently, and now I'm in the market for a new tool (just used my Dremel for carving before, but plan to use whatever I get next for some nice case modding / building, so I definitely want a corded version).

Is this RTX thing compatible with Dremel accessories? I'd hate to have to get rid of all my accessories and purchase new ones for a different tool. 🙁

It will work with all of the 1/8" and 3/32" shank bits. That is almost all the bits. I dont think it will work with the fancier attachments though like router things and flex shafts.

Correct, I have a dremel. I paid about $60 for it and it was well worth it. I've used the RTX too but I prefer the dremmel. The dremmel has replaceable bushings I believe too. Whatever you get, make sure you get a variable speed one. I had a one speed for my first one and that was not much fun.
