If it wasn't for competition you'd be still paying $1000 for your half-assed players and draconian DRM and you'd be begging Sony for more like a good little school kid. "Please master, make me pay double the price for half as much!"
Heh - straight from the universal list of HD DVD troll responses. Someone's buying a Blu-ray player, let's throw out the "All players will be obsolete" line without examining exactly what's happening this fall. Let's also throw out the "HD DVD competition is good" line without discussing how Blu-ray players are also competing against themselves, against the PS3, against regular and upscaling dvd players, against on demand cable & satellite services.

Take your HD DVD troll handbook and leave.

FUDD has to be fought with facts. What will happen this fall? Sony automatically going to upgrade everything by sending out hundreds of thousands of discs? Can't do it over the internet, since there is no connectivity.

So that's all you've got to say for all your half-truths heavily slanted towards your irrational "Sony is evil" opinion?

Blu-ray players bought today will not be able to play picture-in-picture features. I already stated that before you even began trolling this thread.

Grow up. And GTFO. Does it really aggravate you this much that the whole world is turning Blu, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it? I don't even have to respond again to you, because the rest of the people in this forum are not brain-dead drones, they know what trolling is, and they can clearly see who is doing the trolling in this thread, and in each of the other threads I linked above.

Fight FUDD with facts... you wouldn't know a fact if it hit you square in the face.

Where did I advocate that he should get an HD-DVD player anyway? I merely had the point that he shouldn't buy a BD player right now, as you're buying a poorly implemented player that'll essentially be obsolete within 5 months. So I am essentially saying what you are...?

It's not just PIP either, but a lot of other features too.

As far as "growing up" or "GTFO", is it so grown up to say that to people?

I don't have too much time to go into it, but if you want a good difference between the two take a look at what WB is doing to the BD and HD-DVD releases of 300.

PS3 is still one of the best players in terms of PQ and such. And it has the whole console gaming thing going for it.

And there's that PS3 price drop that's been pseudo-confirmed by Target, Circuit City, and Best Buy, supposedly happening next week. $500 PS3 plus 5 free BD movies. Hot.

Wow, I really wanted to stop replying to this thread, but this post absolutely tops them all. You're just making a total mockery of the subject matter for your own amusement. This is a technical forum, not a "let's spread some crap to get a few cheap laughs" forum.

When you say you think these sentences are the same:

"Blu-ray players bought today will not be able to play picture-in-picture features."

"you're buying a poorly implemented player that'll essentially be obsolete within 5 months."

That is exactly why you are a troll that needs to leave. But you are already well aware of that. I thought you were actually serious in your whole "I hate Sony" attitude, now it just looks like you do it for personal laughs.

I think I can finally stop replying to you from now on.

thank you fanerman91 I appreciate ur response. what about the PS3's PQ compare to the Samsung BDP-1200 and what about the PS3's audio capabilities. does it decode True HD and DTS HD, what about lossless PCM also? BTW will I be able to update the PS3's profile to 1.1 when the update is released this fall? Cause I now u cant update any Blu ray players now to 1.1. Also Legendkiller plz get out of my thread, I started it to ask for feedback on what Blu ray player would be best, not for people to come and spread 1 sided information.

The real wealth of information is found here:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=149

I try to keep current on as much as I can, but it's a lot to sort through. The PS3 is certainly the most feature filled and upgrade-able Blu-ray player on the market. I double-checked this time, the players that support full TrueHD audio today are the Sony BDP-S1, Panasonic DMP-10A, Pioneer BDP-94HD, and the PS3. The player that currently supports full DTS-HD-HR is the Panasonic DMP-10A. No player currently supports full DTS-HD-MA. Every player can handle PCM.

Most Blu-ray movies contain a PCM audio track. For me, 11 of the 17 movies I own have PCM audio.

It's not confirmed that the PS3 will be updated to include the requirements for picture in picture, but it's just assumed that it will be, since the PS3 has a powerful processor, and represents ~95% of the Blu-ray players currently in consumer's hands.

As for picture quality comparisons between players, you'd have to ask over at AVS, to find someone who owns both to have compared.

In the end, my only real advice is to enjoy the movies, the colors and the details are absolutely stunning in the recent new releases from Sony and Disney.

Another plus for PS3 is that is that since it is a game console, it has plenty of computing power on tap.. I have read some of the stand alone players are a little sluggish with Java & menu navigation on certain discs while the PS3 chews threw them.

Another minus, is there is no integrated IR receiver for use of a universal remote.
