Why do you hate them so much?

And why hasn't anyone else mentioned RATM?

there songs are so random and annoying, there like the weird al of rock music

No. No they are not random.

I like SOAD alot but some of their lyrics just plain suck.

out of that list.
i pray to the Sunmaid Raisins Girl that no one is listening to Jimmy Eat World 30 years from now.

I was talking about RATM. I couldn't give a crap about SOAD.
perhaps i should of made it clear in my post, i was talking about SOAD

Sir Mix-a-Lot, of course. The distant future will look back on this time of obesity, and think that "I Like Big Butts" was a celebration of this, follwed by that "My Humps" song.

i think dream theater will have it's own niche too

dream theater will guaranteed have listeners down the road.
I really hope Coheed & Cambria receive the same attention. Probably won't have a huge crowd unless their new album dropping this month draws a LOT of attention (which reviews and previews that have trickled out of the woodwork are highly praising the album). But like Rush and Geddy Lee, Co&Ca's Claudio Sanchez bothers a lot of people with his voice. However, they draw a lot of style choices from their influences (which include The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Rush). They mix prog, classic rock and metal for one of the most original sounds in rock.

and you have never heard of JEW? They aren't like godsend or anything, but pretty much pioneers of the original emo genre, which is NO WAY related to the pop-punk crap people like labelling as emo. The original emo acts could be seen as post-punk/hardcore acts. But with each album, JEW has slowly mellowed their sound.

as my dad once said, "classic rock" as it is now, will always be considered "classic" or "oldies".

Dunno what they will call the crappy pop-rock music of this era.

maybe it'll still be called pop-rock
but there are quite a few great bands of current day that are not pop-rock. and nearly all of them have been listed on these two pages. :)

look up the history behind the creation of the real emo genre back in the day.
and look to JEW's Static Prevails, Clarity, and Bleed American albums. you've probably heard songs from Bleed American like 'Middle' and 'A Praise Chorus', among others. ;)
probably shouldn't have mentioned emo as first. Current music that people refer to as emo completely gives a negative connotation in regards to true, post-hardcore emo.

RHCP
Foo Fighters
Korn
311 (timeless, but not nearly as popular)
Beastie Boys will be remembered forever
Soundgarden
Rage Against the Machine (more aquired listening, but people will recognize them)

Wish I had my computeri n front of me to list them all, but there are some solid rock groups I think that should be on here.

*Awesome topic btw

Almost everything has been mentioned. My contributions:

Oasis
Faith No More - the grand daddies of rap/rock (from what I've heard)
Kid Rock - the Lynyrd Skynyrd of the 90s?

There is a huge quantity of very unremarkable music being made today...I don't think we'll be listening to this stuff in 20 years. Stuff made from the 60's and 70's is timeless- meaning it feels powerful and strikes emotion no matter who listens to it (in the same way classical music does the same thing in people 200-300 years later). Todays music is about drum loops and oversinging...blah. Most people in the music industry today CAN'T EVEN PLAY AN INSTRUMENT!!! That's a big WTF to me.

So no. Much like a lot of the music from the 80's, most of today's music will be burried next to "bad disco" :)

Emo isn't timeless, however, much like the music ;)
