The finger scale. Its how many fingers you would cut off in order to **** them. Zero being no way in hell and 10 being all fingers gone.

I don't use a scale; hotness is a function of looks, but it's also a function of intelligence and personality, and the combinations of these can be endless. Come to think of it, I would imagine that this feeling validates GermyBoy's binary scale; either I'd hit it or I wouldn't. But that's not something you can apply to just anyone walking down the street.

What an interesting way to put things. Men (in general) have been disrespectful of women forever. I think it's great that you would even take the time. Very eloquently stated Isla. Hurrah!

As for my rating system, I have none. Even in my high school/college days, I talked to/hung with (read "hitted on") girls that interested me socially/intellectually rather than based on appearence. To use the 10 point scale, I was at some point dating a 1 through a 10.

Do they? I wasn't aware that they did either. But then again, what's an American? From where I come from, they are all cultures and religions, and each one is different. *shrug* So I'm an American, but I can't speak for all Americans.

As for me personally, I appreciate elder men and elder women. It is easy for me to see what they have to offer and value it.

I suppose a lot of it has to do with your personal experience... and for me, I was always the youngest surrounded by older people. And my culture (Spanish) is very respectful and appreciative of older people in general.

This is one of the reasons I use the old woman icon.

I don't want to be ruled by the measure of youth and beauty. I want my voice to be heard, and I want my spirit to be what people remember about me.

I also find it distasteful to use 'feminine wiles' to get what I want. I can... but I'd rather not. I don't like myself afterwards. Manipulating 'The Dumb Stick' is, to me, disrespectful of men and also far too easy. I prefer an intellectual challenge!

I suppose when you live in Antarctica, you don't get a chance to meet other people often, hu?

I don't understand why being dumb and beautiful is somehow less acceptable than smart and ugly. You play the hand you're dealt and use what you have to make a life for yourself. People who are lucky enough to have the best of both worlds can choose how to play it, but few are so blessed. Some use their minds, some use their bodies. What's the difference? People remember Athena's wisdom, but they started a war over Helen's beauty.

The beer scale.

If someone says "8" then that's how many beers they would need.

This system also includes negatives. So if you said "-10" that means SHE would need 10 beer. The negatives are reserved strictly for the unbelievably hot ones.

We never let the ladies hear this...it's just normal guy behaviour which we don't apply to real life at all :)

The milliHelen scale:

If Helen of Troy was so beautiful the Trojans launched 1000 ships to save her, then her beauty is 1000 milliHelens (mH), or 1 Helen (H).
Any woman that is recognizable as female at twenty paces automatically gets 20 mH.
Closing time at a bar gives all available women 50 mH.

This system has a negative part to it; how many ships you would scuttle to avoid contact with a woman.

Who said anything about being dumb and beautiful or smart and ugly?

Aphrodite wasn't dumb and Athena wasn't ugly. Not sure where you are going with this, but perhaps you didn't understand my post?

I wouldn't be proud of starting a war. I would be proud of ending one in a just manner, ala Athena.

The point is, what do you want to be remembered for?
