What are your values?

Threads around here can sometimes be so bleak and negative. To mix it up a bit and to take some time to reflect on the positives:

1. What do you tend to be doing at the times when you feel happiest?

2. Which of your gifts mean the most to you? Which feel most like "you"?

3. What do you love about yourself?

4. What do others love about you?

5. What are you really good at?

6. What really matters to you enough that you are willing to sacrifice for it? Friendship? A partner/child? Creative work? Inner peace? Helping people? Getting the truth?

My answers:

1. Snowboarding, eating my favorite foods, spending time with my husband/family/friends.
2. Books.
3. Optimism, hopefulness, resilience, creativity, sense of humor.
4. Generosity, support, warmth, love, humor, understanding, patience.
5. My job, cooking parmesan asparagus, listening, making people laugh.
6. My husband, family and friendships.

Bit presumptuous to post a thread with so many deeply personal questions isn't it? Good luck getting any serious replies.

You guys are harsh.

I'm disappointed but not surprised by most of the responses.

I don't think "what makes you happiest?" "what do you love about yourself?" "what are you really good at?" etc. are too personal. They're pretty basic, happy things. I think it's nice to reflect on these topics every so often but I guess ATOT isn't the place for doing so.

I tried! :wine:

hmmmmmm its pretty sad that i cant answer these questions right now

No need to do so right away, take as much time as you need to. I think we are trained to think of and dote upon all our faults and shortcomings, we aren't encouraged as frequently to think of and celebrate our strengths. They're there, we just need to get more into the habit of acknowledging them. 🙂

Oh, stay high, be trustworthy, so trustworthy that anybody with a lick of sense just plain trusts you. That took me a while, but after sticking with it for a long time it came to pass.

There's a zen proverb: Always conduct yourself as if you were in the company of a noble guest. It's pretty heavy.

Practice it and after a while you become a downright noble person.

I like this. Sounds like it'd be difficult to maintain 100% of the time but definitely something positive to aspire to.
