My remedy is to point and laugh, as I am 99% I'm immune to it. I've spent half a summer working in it, and it never affected me. I'm not willing to take the gold-standard test of wiping my @ss with poison oak leaves though, so there is a small chance I'm allergic to poison ivy/oak/sumac. But it is a small chance.

Obviously, YMHV. And I point and laugh at you for it.

Never had it either, there were times when I worked landscaping as a summer job in my teens and people I worked side by side with got it but I did not 😀

go to the dr and pay 25.00 for a shot and it will be gone in a day or two.I am highly alergic as well.

they heve some new stuff that packs a real punch.

I had it over 80% of my body and two shots wiped it out

usually takes only one though

what the heck were you doing in the poison ivy? Having a wrestling match?!

If you know you've been in poison ivy, you can wash the oils off with rubbing alcohol. If you do so within a few hours, you very well may avoid breaking out in a rash. I have avoided a rash this way ever since I learned to identify it. (usually I look down and notice "oh sh!t. I'm standing in poison ivy." The last time I had poison ivy was when the kids and their friends happened to walk through a bunch of it before coming into our tent (camping) - they had tracked it onto the floor - I ended up with patches of poison ivy wherever my arms or legs had hit the floor while sleeping or sitting...

ALSO, given the method by which you got poison ivy, I suspect you also have poison ivy oils on the tools you're using... Clean the tool handles or any parts you would touch with rubbing alcohol to remove the oils. Otherwise, next time you pick up the tools... more poison ivy for you.

My husband usually has to get shots for his, but the last time he went to the doctor before it got too bad and he prescribed a cream with fluocinonide which dried it up quickly and took care of the itching as well.

Beyond a soap that is designed to tackle the stuff, an quci remedy to help reduce the impact is to put rubbing alcohol over the are. That dries up the oils that cause the itching. If you have scratched the area, it will sting, but will help. All the creams accomplish the same thing, drienf the oil.

IF you will be working in the business that exposes you, best thing is to wear long clothing, gloves and long socks.

Take them off when finished and wash immediately (hot water, heavy soqap and weak bleach), do not let the clothes sit around and mix with other items, the oil will spread. While swashing, do the same for yourself.

ehh, i was wearing long pants, boots, and a tshirt, but i was soaked, so the oils went right through. so far the only places it is at is where i may have touched the oils from picking up the clippings, and where i probably walked in it. It was probably about 3 hours between when i was in it, and when i could get to washing, so no hope there.

My mother is out getting Zanfel right now for me, hopefully its not systemic.

Corp. rec: i can scratch what ever i want, poison ivy is neither contagious, nor spreadable, it can only be spread by the oils from the plant.

But, if you have the oils of the plant still on the areas breaking out... you're going to spread it.
I'm not sure if you noticed my post above... CLEAN your work tools... they'll have the oil on them too. Or, next time you use the hedge clippers, you'll get poison ivy on your hands, wipe the sweat off your forehead, and end up with poision ivy on your face.

there not my tools lol, its where i worked. and i got this poison ivy on friday, its now sunday, 3 showers later, and the oils should be gone.
