My favorites are Quake 2, System Shock 2, Halflife, and Black Mesa. If you haven't checked out Black mesa OST do so, the music is incredible imo.

So I'm doing some web design tonight and I like to have music playing while I'm working and I'm curious as to what other good OSTs I'm missing out on.

Black Mesa has a wonderful OST, I absolutely love it. You should check out evangelion OST and Chrono cross OST.

I agree about HL (and BM).

I also find now if I listen to anything from the Elder Scrolls series on the walkman while out in the local parks, I find myself getting the weird sense that an animated skeleton or sword-wielding bandit or something may emerge from the trees.

I note some of the music from Skyrim made it into the chart on our local 'classical music' station (though its definitely on the popular end of the classical spectrum) - much to the irritation and bafflement of some older listeners.

Favorite: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (all 3). Brilliant, without ever being cliche or trying too hard to create fake "epic" moments.

Honorable mention: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. The best orchestra-driven soundtrack I've heard in any game (although Darksiders II is excellent).

IMO, Lords of Shadow OST > Skyrim OST.

Halo theme
C&C RA1/C&C TD
Skyrim dragon fight music

Ive got a whole folder of video game music ranging from the zero wing soundtracks to much newer stuff. Some really awesome music in video games! That megaman II dr wily 1 track is awesome, havent even played the game :$

Prince of Persia SOT Romantic
Clive Barker's Undying ...orchestral
STALKER...Theme and I like Russian music
Max Payne 1 and 2 Soulful...fits the game theme
Skyrim has some really nice music, Celtic
Painkiller...creepy and atmospheric
RTCW Fits the game perfectly...militaristic

A few I remember as being a perfect compliment to those games.

When you think about it, music is just as an essential part of games as is the graphics and all the other technical aspects...it should convey the "spirit" of the game and enhance the gameplay experience .

The Wife

Skyrim
WoW
Lemmings

I find RPGs tend to have the best music IMO, maybe I notice it more because I'm not concentrating so hard on the surroundings. Most other games have pretty meh music. I kind of liked Fallout, and I kind of liked Civ, but TES, WoW, and Lemmings all stood out for me. Hearing the Can-Can still brings back memories of digging lemmings and avoiding acid etc.

Rayman (1995)
Death Rally
Grim Fandango
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 & 4
Donkey Kong Land 2 (Gameboy)
Braid
The Neverhood

🙂

No-One Lives Forever 1&2 & Bioshock (original). Groovy swinging 50's/60's? How can you not like it?...
