After a quick search of the forums I didn't see any threads like this, at least for the past 2 months unless I used the wrong keyword. So I was just wondering what are the essential apps that you install on any Droid/iPhone that you get? I'm new to the smartphone world but here are my apps so far:

WinAmp - Much better than the default music player that comes loaded with most android based phones
Google Goggles - Fun to play with
I(heart)Radio - There's a local talk radio station on there that I like listening to
Angry Birds - self explanatory
ShopSavvy - Handy for finding the best price
LookOut - Nice utility should you misplace your phone

There's been threads for this, but yeah, they're too hard to find.

Subsonic - stream my 50+GB of music anywhere I want at 320kbps.

GRemotePro - A remote control app that works over wifi, can explore all of my video files, and is highly customizable

TV Show Favs - Love this app. Helps me keep track of what's on, when it's on, and if I've watched it

Tasker - Automates a ton of things so that I don't need separate apps to do so

And of course Rom Manager, Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, etc, etc...

I'll leave out the games...only because I only play the ones everyone else plays anyway.

-Snaptic/Catch. For me it works better than Evernote on mobile devices
-Springpad - They have an awesome interface on the computer. I look up notes here, like my saved pages and stuff.
These two products sound the same, but they are different in approach. I suggest researching the classic Evernote/Snaptic approach vs. Springpad.

-Engadget
-IMDB
-Tweetdeck. An awesome, fast interface for Facebook and Twitter.
Trillian Beta- It's a great IM solution. It does Facebook chat very well, which is rare. So good I ditched ebuddy. BTW, I hate Trillian desktop.
-Vignette- An awesome camera app with retro effects. It's my favorite because the effects are well done, and you apply and try out the effects after the photo is taken. Unlike other popular ones that force you into picking a mode then taking a picture.
And it's fast. Others like Retro Camera are slow.
-Insert favorite news app here-I like Time Mobile and Fox News.
-Yelp and Google Places
-Google Nav
-Pandora. You can argue which was in best for your tastes. Some like last.fm or Slacker better.
-An assortment of Android specific widgets.

Titanium Backup- Seems like I'm always flashing some new rom. Quick and easy way to restore back.

XDA developers app- I check that site multiple times a day so it's very useful app for me. Plus I can set the display style to dark so it uses very little battery on my AMOLED screen.

Rom Manager- for recovery and new rom flashing.

HTC Droid Incredible
Car Finder AR - Go to a lot of sporting events, so this has helped navigate me back to my car a few times. Not a free app.
Dropbox - Upload pictures/files/etc., handy for uploading pictures and just emailing friends/family a link to the album. Syncs with all my computers. Very easy and dependable.
Epistle - Tried other notes/reminder apps and this won me over. Simple, light, easy to use, and best of all: it syncs the notes to Dropbox!
Tasker - Have tasks that auto-enable WiFi when I get home or to work. Turns GPS on for apps that need it and shuts it off when I'm done. Quiets my phone from getting notifications during certain hours of the night. Turns down brightness and other features when my battery gets too low. And allows me to track my phone if I lose it. Saves my battery, indispensable app. Not a free app either though.

Rather than make a new thread on apps, which we've had a few of, I thought I'd just bump this thread instead.

Anways, it seems that PBS has release an iPhone app. Seems like a cool app. Was only able to spend a few minutes with it on my home's Wifi so I don't know how slow streaming over 3G is but being able to watch full episodes of PBS shows like NOVA and Nature is damned awesome. Also has some kids shows like Sid the Sciense Kid for those with smaller children. The actual interface is not bad. Video quality is pretty good. Unfortunately one negative is that video does not automatically fill the screen. Letterboxing on all four sides.

I only really have two essential apps for my iPhone. Music One radio and the Joystiq news app.
Everything else I have I probably only open once a week, but those two are everyday for sure.
