<< Bolero by Ravel

Anybody else heard it? It's long, but an excellent piece....

The question is has anyone not heard Ravel's Bolero? It's a timeless classic. I liked it since the first time I heard it as a little youngin. My parents would wear out the phonograph playing it. Hmm wonder if anyone remembers phonographs? Hey and I'm not that old either.

WOW! I'm glad there's someone else that appreciates classical music...I'm pretty much sure there's very few of us. I love classical music and have a decent collection, but I've heard very few pieces by Ravel. Can u suggest some of your personal favorites?

Regarding phonographs. I had a player, but it's not working now :( . I've preserved my collection of those LP discs though. Maybe someday I'll manage to find a player and convert those, and burn them to a CD. My parents too used to listen a lot to those LPs, and their needles would wear off, discs would get scratched, etc. Those things really required a lot of maintenance and care.... :)

I'm listening to the sax soli of an original Big Band composition of mine called "1:15". Its in midi, because I"m working on it in Finale 2001. It sucks, so I'm reharmonzing it in the style of Sammy Nestico. I have to turn in the full score and parts tomorrow for my Jazz Arranging II class. Long night ahead...............

I'm not really a huge classical fan. I like some classical pieces but its really not my favorite style of music. I just like to listen to it sometimes when I'm in the mood (not very often). My favorite style of music is like that of the Cocteau Twins song that I mentioned earlier. Alternative? Ethereal? Not sure what it is called, it probably deserves a category of its own anyway.

I have not heard any works by Ravel other than Bolero, so sorry can't help you there though I can link to a website that lists his works:
Ravel's works by name

I do have another favorite classical piece I heard once and it was a violin concerto, though I never did get the name of it or who it was performed by. I'm still searching for that one and when I find out I will let you know, you really should hear this if you're a classical fan. I never really liked violin much at all until I heard this. It is that good. :D
