Second year in a row that fleas are bad down here in Texas. Been trying everything from natural products to chemical and finally hit on a trifecta that worked for a week until I spotted a flea last night.

Frontline Plus for the Dogs
Yardsafe with Cedarcide (natural cedar oil product) for the lawn
Hartz or Biosafe powder for the carpets

Get rid of carpet. They not only hold dirt, but give the fleas somewhere to hide.

Hardwood FTW.

I've thought about it, but the hallway coming to the Master bedroom and the master bath are both travertine tile. Wood would look out of place. The bedroom carpet is the only carpet downstairs and where I'm having the most problems. Upstairs is fine because we don't allow the dogs up there.

No fleas here, but we have the most insane tick infestation outside that I've ever experienced because of the hundreds of rabbits in the area. What's proven effective there is K9 Advantix which also protects against fleas. It is an absolutely amazing product -- I think it's killed about 2-3 dozen ticks so far in two months (did I mention there are a lot of ticks out there???).

Might be worth looking into.

Advantage has always seemd to work a little better than Frontline for me. Been using it for years just by itself and I've never had a sustained infestation.

We used Frontline Plus on our animals for a couple of years, but changed to K9 Advanitix on the recommendation of our vet. (no, we don't buy it there, we get it on line)
We had Clark Pest Control for several years, so I didn't have to treat the yard or carpets, but my wife discontinued the service last year because of the cost, so I'm about to start...
Virbac yard spray has been recommended by the vet for yards, so that's what I'll probably go with, and most likely Bio-Spot for carpets.

IMO, Hartz products are crap...

BTW....this is the best prices I found on Advantage.

http://www.totalpetsupply.com

I think they get their products from Canada or overseas. Shipping is slow, but orders over $99 ship free. I usually buy a 1 year supply of Advantage for my dog with the NuHeart (generic) dewormer. It runs me about $130 a year. At the vet it would be a lot more...

I saw a sign at a vet's office the other day that said "New Flea pill in". Never heard of that, but you might wanna look into it. Personally I don't think I'd try that out onmy dog. Especially since we don't have a flea issue.....ecxept for that damn Red Hot Chilli Peppers bassist that's been stalking us.
