Any other ATOTers going to be there?

Nope. We had reservations and a nice package scheduled for the Pro Bowl in 2004...but my knee surgeon refused to cooperate, so we had to cancel.

ive never watched it, prob never will

I used to watch the QB challenges. Do they still do that?

I also refuse to watch the Pro Bowl. Hopefully if no one watches it, they will make it better. I have no idea how to make it better, but it sucks right now.

The game itself will always be played at half-speed. It's basically a slap-fight on the line. Until you fix that you'll never have a chance to make it into something watchable. And since it's an exhibition game and the main goal is to not get hurt, I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I do have a solution however... Hand a $5 million paycheck to the players on the winning team. Now watch them play... :awe:

That said... I don't care. I'm going to have fun no matter what.

I don't think the all star games from football or hockey will ever be relevant because you take the physicality out of the equation, but basketball used to be and baseball still is fun to watch.

For me, the biggest issue with the Pro Bowl is that it's played before the Super Bowl. Many otherwise pro-bowl players won't play because they (and their teams) don't want to take a chance of losing them to injury before the "big game."

Move the Pro Bowl to a couple weeks AFTER the Super Bowl...and I think it would improve both the game and the "watchability" of the game.

Yeah... or if you're going to play it the week before the Super Bowl have it in the same city. That way you can hype it all up... all-stars and SB players all in the same place... It makes the whole thing a bigger event. It seemed to work great last year. (was it last year they did that?)

Anyway, I'm glad it's here. I've never been to an NFL game and even though this is the NFL/2 it's probably as close as I'll ever get. And it's a fun excuse to party in Waikiki for the weekend.

As good as the NFL is, the stupid 2-week break before the SB is... stupid. Play the game the week after the AFC/NFC championships. Actually, I'm not even a huge fan of the SB itself because it's more like the focus is on a bunch of stuff going on and there's a football game kinda throw in on the side.

The PB sucks. Nobody watches that shit other than people really needing a football fix. The SB however, pigface, is the greatest sporting event in the world!!

^ Yeah it's basically there so football fans don't have to go two weeks without a game before the end of a season. It it were after the SB, I doubt anyone would watch it.

no one watched it after the superbowl, either. of the all star games, the only one that's ever been worth watching is MLB's, but they've done a pretty good job f-ing that up over the last 10 years. NHL's is probably pretty good but i don't watch hockey so  (the all star draft is a pretty good idea)

If they want people to watch it, they need a really cool sponsor. Unfortunately, there's already a Chick-fil-A Bowl, Outback Bowl, Insight Bowl, Maaco Bowl, Alamo Bowl, Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, GoDaddy.com bowl, Neineke Bowl, . . .

Maybe they could rename it the Anandtech Bowl. Then, they might get 30% of the people here to watch it, which would make it the most watched pro bowl ever.

Unfortunately Doc, most ATOTers would expect Anand himself to "throw out the opening pitch." 😛
