I live in a a remote town in the mountains with a population of about 35,000 people. The closest large town is 100+ miles in any direction, and you have to go down to get there. I think my town would revert into a self-sufficient enclave. Chances are some sort of militia would need to be formed in order to protect the people and the town's resources. The town charter would continue to serve as a basis of government, with the mayor and city officials being elected by the city populous.

There are plenty of untouched forests and lakes in the literally hundreds of thousands of acres surrounding my town. I don't think we would have a problem producing food and other supplies. We already have our own coal burning power plant that is served by a local coal mine, it wouldn't take much to keep it running. The people running and working at the plant/mine would continue to.

it was un-thinkable at one point, but i think it's wise now to prepare for interruptions in food supplies. i.e., it's realistic to prepare for a time when trucks don't bring food to the supermarkets with the regularity we see today.

i'm growing part of my own food supply and ... in case prime rib gets too expensive ... training myself to eat alternate protein sources - like redworms & earthworms. :disgust:

You obviously haven't played Fallout. We just annex Canada, problem solved.
