An eyewitness recorded cellphone video of a Santa Ana police officer shoot and kill an unarmed 22-year-old homeless man at a shopping center earlier this week.

The witness, who wished to remain unidentified, was standing in the parking lot of the Harbor Place Shopping Center on South Harbor Boulevard around 3 p.m. Tuesday when he said he filmed a confrontation in front of Jugo’s La Tropicana between an officer, later identified as a 13-year veteran, and victim Hans Kevin Arellano.

“She exited her patrol car, gun drawn, and asked the gentlemen to get on the ground. The gentlemen didn’t get on the ground, he was still inside the restaurant. She asked again. The man then exited the restaurant, and as he was exiting the restaurant, he said, ‘What are you gonna do, b—-?’ About a second later, she shot him in the chest,” he said.

You can't tell ANYTHING from the video nor could the 'witness' recording the video provide an accurate representation of the incident from their vantage point.

Sick of this shit. Thugs act like thugs and end up dead.
Why should I feel sympathy for this guy getting shot by a cop.
Not saying he 'deserved' to die but when you are thug you end up dead. Its how the world works.

An older sister of Arellano told KCAL9′s Tom Wait that her mother is in Mexico and in a lot of pain.

Yea. Maybe if you didn't raise a dead beat gang banging son he wouldn't have been shot.
The mother should be in pain because she raised a scumbag and she only has herself to blame.

Hell this is a quote from the family
“I believe they should have Tased him, hit him with a baton, anything, but not shot him to kill him,” said Arellano’s niece, Yenniffer Moreno.

Flat out pathetic.

Sick of this shit. Media trying to hitch a ride on dead gang bangers. Oscar Grant, thug, dead. Trayvon Martin, thug, dead. Asshat in Canada who was shot the other day, thug, dead. This guy, thug, dead.

I would pay good money to make sure that phrase was put on his tombstone.

Yep, would make a good episode of When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong.

While I have no idea if the shooting was justified, I don't generally have much sympathy for criminals that don't follow directions.

Well then, take it in how ever you wanna take it in then...bottom line is you dont know...tell you one thing, if that cop actually did shoot that man for no reason at all other then a reply of self-justifying beknownst that he didn't do anything wrong, the second after I would have got up and put a bullet through her head.

I agree you can't see much from that video.

Did he do some lunge toward her as he said "what are you going to do, bitch?" perhaps that "fake out" lunge people like to do frequently when they say that phrase "whatchoo gon do?" "step up" etc? Did this idiot make the mistake of doing that fake out "step up!" lunge at a cop with a firearm pointed at him?

I have no idea, and neither does the guy who shot this video.

It's unfortunate and I obviously don't think cops should just be shooting people for the smallest little thing... but as Patranus said, in different words...

if you live the type of lifestyle where you're constantly having occasion to be interacting with police... police who are often in a state of heightened anxiety due to their job and not knowing if you have a weapon, etc... and you're stupid enough to give them ANY reason to fear for their safety... and if you're too stupid to know how to be compliant and cooperative, even if the cops are in the wrong or have the wrong person... rather than mouth off or fight back... and you don't value your life over your pride...

well then, shit happens sometimes.

Guy calls woman a bitch while she has her gun drawn..

Um can't see I feel sorry for this idiot. He should probably get the Darwin award.

Now if it was justified or not is a different story that video really doesn't say much at all.

In fact, I see month after month of cops killing peoples dogs on there owners property, some were even being friendly...they have the videos and all, showing the cop was just a straight up fuck tard. If a cop did that to my dog, I'd not only shoot his ass, I'd shoot a few of his family members as well. Probably before I shoot him, so he knows...about karma.

I got respect for the average cop who fights for justice and all that shit, but for the asshole cops, theres only one thing to say to them...

a Santa Ana cop acting like a thug? Color me shocked, I'm surprised the people of Santa Ana haven't all banned together and tore that entire fucking place down. While there are plenty of gang members out there, the police are probably even worse than them. After my 3 run ins with their police force I won't even drive thru that city again.

People can bitch and bitch and bitch about gang members, and I'm not sticking up for them. But I can't remember the last run in I had with gang members. And I hang out in areas people on here would consider wtfbbqshitty like east side Long Beach, Paramount & South Gate. But I have been fucked with by police many times.

Silver Prime,

It's true that there are cops who take shit too far. No doubt about it. I have no love for cops who abuse their power and just get off on violence.

That said? Sometimes the heat of the moment can take over even for a trained officer, and if someone was being a real piece of shit to them it may take them a minute to bring their own retribution/anger into check and under control. That's too bad, and I wish it wasn't so... but I don't think every cop who gets a bit carried away is Satan for that. It's mostly a reality of us having to use humans as our law enforcement... and not having Vulcans or robots to use.

But yea, cops who are outright brutal for no reason, or looking for an excuse... they are pieces of shit, without a doubt.

What you describe doing to those cops seems like a really bad move, any or all of you could've been shot or lost years of your lives to prison... easily. You could've accidentally killed a cop, and then your world would have really exploded.

Probably would have been better to just yell for them to stop. What was your cousin doing before it got to that point? Why were cops present? Why were they interested in him? Had he been aggressive and then was defeated? Had he been mouthy? Had he fled initially? Some honest answers as to what led up to him on the ground being batton'd, would be appreciated.

A link to a video of a cop outright shooting someone's dog while it was being friendly, would also be appreciated.

I've seen the video of the cops shooting the rottweiler recently, and I think they were justified.

Do some cops err on the side of their personal safety over someone else's dog's life? Yea, and it's a sad situation when a dog gets offed... but if your personal policy as an officer is to put your personal safety further down the list than peoples' dogs lives, or the lives of criminals... you may not last long. That's why compliance and remaining calm is the best policy when dealing with police. Give them zero reason.

Nah, I probably would think that way, but I'd be so furious in the moment, the cop would be shot in the face there and then.

Edit

Heres just a few seperate cases...

http://www.google.com/search?q=cop+shoots+dog+on+own+property+&ie=ISO-8859-1&hl=en&source=hp&gbv=1

Theres actually tons, hundreds maybe thousands if I was to document each link.

I dont know how dogs are to people on the mainland, but down here on the islands, our dogs are part of our family's, they protect us just as much as we protect them.

At a glance, nothing immediately jumps out about those stories which rules out the officers having had a good reason to shoot the dogs.

the Hawthorne case seemed like a clear situation where the police acted appropriately, though it was sad.

Just like any other member of your family, if your dog is attacking a police officer or acting in a way which could be perceived as doing so... all bets are off. Officers put their safety first, and rightly so.

Sometimes tragic misunderstandings or over-reactions happen, and that's a shame. But we ask these people to put their lives on the line every day and deal with the worst elements of our society, in order to protect the rest of us. For those reasons, I am personally hesitant to judge police too harshly. When a situation is clear, though, I am certainly prepared to acknowledge an officer or group of officers are real pieces of shit, and I've seen situations like that before. Even with those officers though, perhaps it is worth keeping in mind the toll it can take on you to deal with the dregs of society for years... but yes, there are real pieces of shit cops.

I think the real mistake is to come at everything emotionally. If you think about your own dog and how much you love your own dog, and that's your jumping off point for any time you hear an officer shot a dog... you aren't likely to give a very sober appraisal of the events in question.

Exactly the same as the Trayvon thing. If a person's starting point for how they're going to process an event like that is "I'm black, he's black... I have a son, my son is black... it could be my son" etc etc... again, you aren't going to be arriving at a very fact-based conclusion.

I am pretty sure you have posted several times in years past that you are white (although not recently so I could be mistaken). If that is the case, than your complaining about the police stopping you in black drug dealing neighborhoods is ridiculous, especially when they see you with a black person in the car. Of COURSE they stop you. I have been you and that is the game dude. Play it don't whine about it.
If not than whine on brutha.

Sure you would and you would end up just like this thug.... He thought he was a bad ass too I'll bet. Too late he discovered that he was not.

Not enough information here. It depends on the information she was given or saw right before she started running up to the building, and his actions when she got there. None of which we know.

News flash, not every street in Long Beach is full of drug dealers. So you think the police are justified to stop a white person in long beach because he has a black person in the car with him? Interesting out look. Also, in Long Beach I lived there, and it wasn't a drug area. There were thugs, but nobody slanging. But that didn't stop the police from sitting me on the curb and calling me a liar when I tell him I lived on that street, shit was pretty depressing. Mind you this wasn't a street with crack dealers, it was simply a street that black people lived on. But as the pig put it "white people don't go here" When he finally let me go, his last comment was not to come back to this area again wtf? I lived there lol.

Last time I checked I'm free to drive anywhere, this isn't Iraq.
