The "what to expect when your expecting" books are loved by my wife. Adn they are actually useful. Of course, only get them if she's into reading.

im getting her her birthstone set in a necklace. and im buying me a necklace to wear a ring that I gave her around my neck. dec. 29th is our 1yr so it'll be like a xmas/1yr/me-going-away-to-college-on-jan 5.th kinda thing.
 
We are moving into the house we just bought tomorrow morning.

so, i guess that will have to do for a present to my wife this christmas. can't afford to get her anything big. 😉

Someone above suggested a bed topper. How about a 2-inch thick memory foam topper. I have one and it is MUCH more comfortable than a normal mattress. Using one will also help prevent some back pack pain, accorinding to the manufacturers, anyway.

We have one. It is awesomely comfortable, but hot as all heck.
