What are you getting this Tuesday: iPhone 4/4S/5?

Apple behind again.. the iphone 5 will come out next July and they will tell people "4G is a MUST HAVE"

Either way I gotta blaze on ATT my service is imploding, my work and my house have both lost signal strength and I'm in the middle of the city.

Tim Cook said:
iPhone 4S features an 8 megapixel camera with a better light sensor, making it as good or better than many point-and-shoot devices.

He is full of shit on his first keynote.

Really I think the biggest announcement from a financial/ecosystem point of view is that the 3GS is now free with contract. This is the first time that the iPhone has been available for free to compete with all the free Android phones. This is actually pretty big and I can see the 3GS continuing to sell in large numbers, and Apple taking back some marketshare from Android. I have a 3GS and it does pretty much everything I want it to do. Siri looks awesome, but I don't want to pay that much for a phone.

Since this uses the same outsides as the iPhone 4... I can just order an iPhone 4 case from Monoprice now. Yay for cheap cases.

p.s.: Unless you get HPDA+ (ATT-Mobile), those data numbers are bogus. Rev. A is still gonna continue to be Rev. A. (VZ/SP)

The thing is, HSDPA isn't a faster connection, it's essentially two 3G connections. Won't this cause even worse tower saturation though? If I remember correctly, wireless works by sending to a single connection at a time. Will this cause the tower to allocate two sends/receives (for both connections) to your one device?

Well, the issue is that 3GS is only available on AT&T.

Only on the AT Forums would a brand-new SoC be a "minimal" update. They're replacing a single core ARM-A8 with a dual-core ARM-A9 and the ancient SGX535 with a SGS543MP2, and we may get 1GB of RAM too. That's a massive update.
For the largest, richest technology company in the world; one with a user base that specifically buys their products for its innovative, cutting-edge industrial design; taking this long simply to re-launch their 1.5 year old phone with a new SoC isn't going to cut it.

Will Apple sell a boat load? Undoubtedly. Will the 4S slow/stop Android's march to dominance? Doubtful.

4S is a disappointment after waiting for so long, without a case change. 64GB is nice, but in the tech world a year and a half is a long long time, and I myself was looking forward to a bigger screen.

Today got rid of the idea of me getting a new iPhone to coincide with my S2 or sell my S2 for the iPhone.

Android dominates marketshare because its cheap to license and there are a crap ton of free(mostly shitty) handsets. Apple isn't worried about marketshare. As long as it continues to sell millions of iPhones each cycle, it doesn't care what Google and its cadre of handset manufacturers are doing. Apple has the best selling smartphone, and will continue to have the best selling smartphone.

Apple has the best selling phone. Google has the best selling mobile os. I don't see either ever changing.

ok so thats awesome, it should put pressure on carriers to stop dicking people over with txt plans. because the millions of apple users can basically do it for free now (apl to apl anyway) which is still a huge # of users

Salesperson: Check out the new iPhone, it's awesome.
Customer: I already have that phone, I got it last summer.
Salesperson: Impossible, it just came out last week.
[Customer takes out their iPhone 4, compares the two]
Customer: It's exactly the same.
Salesperson: This is the 4 "S", not the regular 4.
Customer: What's the difference?
Salesperson: The "S" has a dual-core processor, fast-aperture camera lens, HSDPA data...
Customer: Ummm...
Salesperson: It has more GEE-BEES and more MEGAPIXELS.
Customer: Oh, right. Well that's cool, I guess.
Salesperson: And check this out, your very own personal assistant!
[Salesperson holds up the iPhone 4S in front of their face]
Salesperson: FIND MEE CHAI-NEEZ REST-TA-RONT.
Customer: Awesome...

Gotta say I nailed it with my predictions. Too many rumors flying around about the redesign but not enough leaked evidence.

I'm disappointed but I'll be upgrading my 2G and 3GS to a sprint 4S

Still a 3.5" screen? Sticking to my 3GS, thank you very much. Let's just hope iOS5 will run smooth on it... The AirPlay WiFi mirroring does look very cool though (only thing I liked). But I guess the 4 "non-S" will get that too?

Who exactly upgrades every year? The overwhelming majority do not, so I don't really know where you are going with that.

The have a free iPhone, a fairly completive $99 iPhone. And they'll have no problems selling millions of the 4s.

People hoped for a redesign since Apple took 4 extra months. But Apple apparently is sticking to their redesign ever other phone.

Ordered a few iPhone 4 cases from Monoprice. They're only around $1 a piece, so if they end up not fitting well (designed for Verizon iPhone 4 vs. AT&T iPhone 4)... I'm not exactly going to worry too much.

If they released the 3GS as a prepaid, I'd be on that, but the only real news for me is iOS 5 for my iPod touch. Guess I'll be waiting for iPhone 6 to see if I want to give up my crappy Palm Pixi Plus.
