Honestly once you get to about 9%abv most beer tastes awful, pretty much the only beers that work at that strength and above are stouts and Imperial stouts.
Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron was one of my favorites and was 12%. Don't think Dogfish Head has produced it in years though, as it required some kind of rare wood they could no longer import. Another really high alcohol beer I like is Stone's Double Bastard Ale, which is 10.5% ABV. Though I do prefer their regular Arrogant Bastard Ale which is more like 7.5%. But the Double Bastard still works and isn't a stout. Previously posted Bigfoot is like 9.6% and is awesome too.

I started decanting a 2020 Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva.

2020 is suppose to be a great year for chiantis so I can't wait to taste it. The only down side is I have to wait a little bit while it decants but from what I understand it should be worth the wait.

Hopfather from Russian River Brewing. My favorite Liquor store got a few cases in and picked up 3. Spendy at $8.49/500ml bottle.

Finally tried a Lambic and was pleasantly surprised.

Very low ABV, but the bright fruitiness and carbonation made it feel festive and the strong raspberry was sort of Lingonberry adjacent.

Maybe not a traditional winter beer but it fits with bright festive flavors.

Lambics are good, but it's hard to bundle them in with beer. The flavor's so wildly different, they don't work when I'm in a "beer" mood.

I overdid Famous Grouse scotch earlier. Didn't really get drunk. Just felt blah for a good while. Passed out in a woodstove coma, and just woke up feeling much better. Hoping to catch Santa and get ALL the gifts this year :^D

-Yes my culinarily unadventurous Unk in Law was deeply dismayed at the idea of the notion that it was tangentially related to the jungian archetype of the drink known as beer.

completely agree. I love all the other Belgium beers but I just can’t with Lambics. I actually just spent like $80 on Gouden Carolous beers today (not their Christmas Ale)

Ha! I have that exact same decanter! It's got about half a bottle of barolo in it at the moment! Or it did, I'm away driving my mum home and my son may have finished it off before I get home!

Ever tried their Blind Pig IPA? Good stuff as well. Of course Pliny is the flagship.

Pig is definitely more balanced than Pliny and both are in constant rotation at my local watering hole. I've been to the RR brewery ~10 times and drank their entire catalog a few times over.

Mosaic Stack is my favorite IPA of theirs.

Swiss Miss Milk Chocolate with Marshmallow.

Local HEB ran out of it a week before the winter storm, so ordered from Amazon.. took them more than a week to deliver...o_O

At least i have a cup of hot chocolate now and ready for this weekend's cold.
