$14. Tastes cheap, but is drinkable. Kind of tastes like they've added flavoring to it. It's warm and spicy, with an alcoholic back burn. For $14, it's hard to complain, but add another $14, you can get the superior Asbach Uralt. Yea, it's twice as much, but it tastes like it was made by someone who gives a shit. Not a cheap base spirit with crap added on top.

Better than expected for $22. Highly sherried, and that might be a downside; kind of a one trick pony, but fairly smooth. Not a lot of pot still flavor.

E&J brandy again. This would probably be a good introduction to brown spirits for the kiddies. It's kind of sweet, and very vanilla dominant(added I suspect). I doubt I'll get it again. It just tastes cheap. Not hard to drink by any stretch, just cheap.

Soft and sweet, with herbal and honey notes. Tasty, but not very complicated. It's my least favorite of the three decent rums I've gotten lately, but I'd get it again. I think it was $35 for the bottle.

edit:
revising my review downward. It's a little too sweet, and leaves a stickiness on my lips. I still like it, but wouldn't want too many in a row.

Man. That would cost me a 100$ down here but yes it's very sweet. It's one of those rums that has had sugar mixed in. Another one with sugar mixed in is el dorado.

I am not a huge fan of sweetened rum. It is why I prefer indie bottlings!

I just bought a bottle of that Nikka. Didn't realise there was such a thing as Coffey distilled japanese whisky. I also bought a bottle of signatory unchillfiltered collection glenlivet 1996 single malt.

My new years resolution is to sample some interesting whisky......

Haven't had this in awhile. Nice flavor, but a little wild imo. I should see what these guys are up to, and see if they have anything older than this 18month malt. It has a lot of potential, and they're using my idea of fruitwoods for an American take on single malt.

Tasty, and an attractive bottle. Soft vanilla, with a mild sweetness. I think this'll replace my goto of 1800 añejo.

If you can get a bottle of Nikka From the Barrel, do it. Its my favorite Nikka I've had by far. And if you're in the Bay Area, I'd be down to swap some samples of stuff I have.

Sounds good. Unfortunately I live in Australia. 🙂 That Nikka was awesome btw. I think I will order another bottle.

Didn't taste as I remembered, so I looked up reviews online. It is different than it used to be, and not quite as good imo(and in the opinion of others). Apparently they got a new master distiller, and I guess that's why it changed. It's smokier, and has more bite than it once did. I still have an unopened bottle of 25yr from the old make. At the time, I considered it inferior to the 12, but the price I got them at was fantastic. I may have to open it, and see how it compares to the new 12. Might be better. Can't remember what the 25 was like exactly.

The more I drink this, the more I dislike it. I'll be happy when the bottle's gone, and I won't be getting it again. It's too sweet to take seriously, like a child's drink.

Now you know. Rum with sugar added is not good. 🙂 Sounds like you are developing a palate for rum.

What's your opinion of Mount Gay rum? I think I've seen you post it before, and I've seen some in the stores around here. I don't have the selection you've got. I could probably track your stash down if I drove all over the state, but most stores have the "rail" rums, and maybe one or two "top shelf" products. They aren't fleshed out like the whisky shelves.

I'm still digging the Pussers. That's my favorite so far. The Angostura 1919 had a nice flavor, but it's a little too soft for routine drinking imo.

Four Roses Single Barrel.
This is regularly stocked middle tier bourbon in my cabinet. I can get it regularly for around $32. It's a high proof (100) but it's very complex. Sweet, heat, vanilla and butterscotch. Very nice neat and for a high end old fashioned.

I'm drinking some Bota Box Pino Grigio. It's a very complex wine with aromas of nectarine, white peach, and light floral notes.

Can i taste any of that?? Nope....Do i care?? Nope!! Am i getting buzzed?? Yes! :wineglass:😛

Mount Gay is alright. I used to drink a lot of their cheaper stuff with coke. The one I posted earlier was higher end. Finding quality rum in australia isn't easy either it just doesn't have the same reputation as whisky. I buy most of mine online from a specialty liquor store in melbourne. They have a huge selection of premium rum and also do their own importation of the harder to find stuff. I also occasionally buy internationally but the import duties on alcohol are nearly prohibitive.

Pussers is nice and good value too. Angostura mainly produce a light version of trinadadian rum. I don't drink it very often either. Lately I have been getting into some whisky and that signatory I posted earlier had some serious kick. The coffey distilled nikka I purchased was awesome also. Part of the fun is discovering all of the different varieties and what you prefer be it rum or whisky.
