Make a photo blog of your brewing adventures for us. I saw a Good Eats episode years ago on a deployment and wanted to try home brewing. Never got into it though. Are you a seasoned brewer? Does it taste similar to other brands? How much do you get and how much does it cost?
I've been brewing for about four years now, so I am at the point where I can make beer that tastes pretty good but I stick to fairly simple beers. I pretty much brew hefeweitzen every other session because that's my favorite and then something like a red ale on the off session.
It's hard to brew something that tastes just like a commercial beer because they generally have their own yeast strains and yeast is what gives a beer its' unique character. I can make a pretty decent Fat Tire or Blue Moon however. I can make a pretty good Spotted Cow as well.
I make either 2.5 gallon or 5 gallon batches, so figure one or two cases of beer once it is bottled. I guess a five gallon hefe probably costs me about $20-$25 in raw materials.
I thought about getting into it. A good buddy of mine started brewing about 2 years ago. The kit he bought was fairly decent for around ~$100. He did end up buying some extra stuff (bigger kettle, bigger carboy, etc.) once he got more into it.
Here are some sites that I was recommended:
