wow, a lot of insensitive, shallow folks in here. i went to to detroit public schools and they placed a lot of emphasis on learning the important black historical figures and events. it sounds like some of you went to school in the middle of nowhere.

I simply do not care.
I am not going to bow to any special interest group.
Months 'celebrating' race are flat out stupid.
I don't need a month to appreciate the contributions of blacks, whites, hispanics, asians, native americans, pacific islanders, jews, women, gays, breast cancer, ect.

I appreciate the contributions any man/woman made.
The entire concept is beyond stupid.

So did they place the same importance on Hispanics, Asians, Irish, Indians etc. as they did black people up there? :colbert:

There is a difference in learning about certain individuals that contributed to society, and promoting a certain race.

Promoting a certain race of people over other races, is racism.

BHM is almost perfect, and was definitely not created for black people because White America loves them so dearly. The white people who came up with it knew exactly what they were doing. About 98% of the black people I know greatly dislike it. And almost all the white people I come across either publicly whine about how much they hate it, or you can tell by the look on their face when it's mentioned that they dislike it. And I think the few I meet who act like it's this wonderful idea are doing it because they want to be politically correct. Also schools don't even come close to teaching a month of black history, it's 2 of the same movies every year and a day or 2 of talking about the same 3 or 4 historical black figures. They should call the month what it really is, "white people show their true colors about how they feel about black people month"

That's kind of too long I guess, but BHM definitely exposes who's racist and who's not.

I am choosing not to participate in racism by not celebrating BHM nor any other month set aside to elevate any race above another.
Its black HISTORY month, not black month.

But I see your point. American kids need a much better history education overall. Focusing on one race isnt enough.
Actually I think history might be the most important subject in school and the one thats really not pushed enough. If you wanna know why things are the way they are, History.
If you wanna know why humans make the same dumbass mistakes over and over, lack of History.

Just my opinion.
Also I share the opinion of Morgan Freeman on the subject.

Black history is American history. Remove the color from it and you remove the racism.

Want to make sure I'm reading this right.

If you are white and support it you are just being politically correct. If you are white and don't support it you're a racist. However, if you are black and don't support it that's OK.

Never discuss racism with a liberal. You can NOT win the game if you play.
Best move is ignore them.

Nope what I said is most white people get really up in arms about it, if it upsets a person that much, they have some deep seated issues with black people. I'm sure there are plenty of white people who are okay with it and not just because they feel it's PC. And I'm sure there are white people who dislike it but aren't racist. And most black people I know who dislike it, do so because they don't like the hate that gets projected towards them by white people they come in contact with. They didn't ask for a month to be dedicated to them, one which ultimate leads to learning next to nothing about them. But does result in more hate thrown in their direction them by white people in general. So it's pretty much a lose/lose for black people.

I could understand white people getting so up in arms if this month actually meant something. Maybe if black people got to cut in line at the DMV or where ever they wanted for a month, okay get angry. But as it stands so many get angry over what amounts to nothing.
