heh, funny you should mention that... i am really hoping that he gets some moose sausage or pepperettes made too. basically as many different cuts and conglomerations of meat as they can muster up would be ideal. i've had moose burgers, they are AWESOME.

The wife is Indian, and most of my family lives in another state. So, we're doing a bit of a twist on Thanksgiving this year and cooking:

1) Malai kofta
2) Mutter Paneer
3) Mango dahl
4) Papads with mint chutney
4) Rasmalai

It's all delicious, and I don't miss the turkey. We'll pair it with a nice German Riesling. That's about it.

No meat?

Nope. She's vegetarian, so... that pretty much makes me a part-time vegetarian too.

Making a small turkey, but also baking couple of phesant I got a few weeks ago, along with some Chukar I got on the same hunting trip. The Chukar I will make with a rosemary cream sauce. All the other food is on the rest of the family.

On Thanksgiving day it'll be just the wife and I and we're going to make a meatloaf some mash potatoes and corn.

My bro-in-law is coming over Saturday though and we're gonna roast a small turkey, make some green bean casserole and some sweet potato souffle. We're gonna have pumpkin, pecan and apple pie also.

I would weep if my family would allow a nice 7 Cheese baked Mac & Cheese dish. But when I asked I was told that's not appropriate Turkey day food - LOL WTF!

So make it yourself and bring it regardless. It'll be hard for them to stick to the "it's not traditional/appropriate" argument when they're OM NOMMing the shit outta it.

My family does a pretty traditional meal, but I don't complain. It's all tastey and more than I can eat.

With my wife's family we do mostly the same stuff, but add in some incredible Italian meatballs and pasta from her father's side.

My family is from Ohio, very white and "traditional". We have turkey, of course, and at least one other meat, usually roast beef-ish. We have several thousand side dishes, including mashed potatoes (with homemade noodles), dressing, wild rice, yams w/marshmallows, green bean casserole with canned onion crisps/cream of mushroom soup, ambrosia, cranberry sliced from the can, fancy cranbery dressing, homemade rolls, creamed corn, oyster bake, lasagna, mac and cheese, several "exotic" salads - like tomato w/mozzarella, taco salad, etc etc etc.

When my sister married a vegetarian, it was no problem - there is enough variety in the side dishes that she & hubby had plenty to eat.

Oh, and of course there's dessert, too. Duh. If you want the list, it'll take several more paragraphs. I have turkey-shaped sugar cookies cooling in the kitchen ready to decorate.

The leftovers last for a long time.

The leftovers are the best part, IMO. I could eat turkey sandwiches every day for the rest of my life.

Fryin' a turkey ... we've done this the past few years. Couple times at my place, other times at a family members.

I miss Thanksgiving with my S. FL family though ... ridiculous amounts of people and food. This one dude made the best collard greens EVAR.

We're gonna have pretty normal stuff, good ass mac & cheese will be making an appearance.

Are you black?

We eat Ham, Turkey, Chips, Dip, Pies, and Egg Rolls, Noodles, Roast Pork.

Vietnamese here.

My mom usually does:

Turkey
Chow Mein/Chow Fun
Egg Rolls
Chinese Chicken Salad
Deep Fried Shrimp

My Aunt said she's bringing ham and pie.

I'll be making mashed potatoes and I'm still debating on sweet potatoes/yams. I'm tempted to make mac and cheese also just for the heck of it.

There's more, I know it, I just can't think of it. My mom also makes Chinese desserts.

My Black friends all have these dinners with 7 cheese Mac & Cheese, Beef Brisket, short ribs, 2 kinds of Ham etc.

I think that has to do with economics more than anything else. Im sure when most black thanksgiving traditions were born, they werent exactly wealthy.

were the pilgrims wealthy?

the pilgrims didn't have anything that is associated with the modern Thanksgiving, except maybe corn

Fried Dressing. Thats about as weird as it gets for us. Just dressing thrown in a oiled skillet and fried and they need to be burnt a bit, mmm good. Damn good cold or on turkey sandwiches the next day too. I'm white but live in Wv so it might be a hillbilly thing. Never had it anywhere but at family dinners.
