What are those skirts called that flare out when a girl spins?

So I'm trying to get my girlfriend a present. I know what I'm looking for, but I don't know what it's called...

Has anyone seen those retro-looking skirts that flare out when a girl spins while dancing? My girlfriend and I swing dance a lot and she seems to really like those skirts... I have no idea what they're called. I thought they were petticoats, but those seem to be more of an already poofed-up skirt.

What I'm looking for is a skirt that is more or less straight, but when she spins, it catches air and is huge. Kind of like this, except that skirt is too short. Longer and more obnoxious is the key ;)

Help me ATOT. You're my only hope.

Jitterbug is a type of person/dancer. Poodle skirt is a poodle skirt. That's more 50s high school style.

Looks like a simple pleated skirt.
PS - The bolded statement above should never be uttered by anyone.

Hoop skirt?

Wrong century :^D

I think it's just a pleated skirt as someone said above. There's plenty of vintage lifestyle sites on the web that should be able to give good information on getting a correct period skirt. Personally, I don't like buying clothes for women. Too much work, dealing with stuff I know little about.

Buying women clothes is a bad idea. Imagine if your wife tried to buy you a very specific quad core processor that you wanted...you'd be lucky if she even bought one that used the right type of socket. You will do no better at the clothes thing than she would do there.

You want either a "full circle skirt" or a "swing dance skirt".

They are readily available online, just google.

What do you call the ones that are like a close fitting skirt (tube skirt?) but have three of more frills that flail outward when the wearer spins? I think I usually see them in latin dances/tangos.

Edit: The second pic down looks like a full dress version of the skirt I'm thinking of.

The Bianca Ryan video I posted earlier seems to have one of them, even though they are usually "fruity-colored" and she never twirls to confirm.
