What are they doing with the Hubble telescope?

I saw something on the news that they were repairing the Hubble telescope? again. Did this thing live up to the huge expectations? It seems like they're always repairing it.

AFAIK it still works fine....they're just giving it a little upgrade. Only suppose to make it 10X more powerful :Q

They're modifying it to take extremely high resolution, ground level photohraphs of the Middle East. :Q

😀

The Hubble will continue to be upgraded until like 2007. Right now they're doing things like doubling the resolution and the like. It might even be able to directly see planets orbiting other stars now.

It would burn out real quick if you pointed it at the Earth 🙂

there not sure if it is going to work ( haven't heard if they are done yet or not ) as what they are replacing was never meant to be changed out in space. They have to "power cycle" the hubble, as they aer changing out the controller.

Actually, after the original blurriness was corrected, the thing has far exceeded expectations on what it spotted, and with these "mods" it's hoped to show us even more great images!

<< think of it this way.....

they're overclocking just to get a coupla more WU's done
>>

they're hoping that with the increased resolution they'll be able to see the little green men waving at them, eliminating the need for SETI@home

This is true. Hubble has turned out to be a big win for team NASA.

<< They are turning it around so those NASA geeks can spy on young coeds in the shower. >>

That is probably true.
