here's how you activate the 'field test' screen:

at the home screen
enter: *3001#12345#
scroll down to 'field test' and hit 'select'
highlight 'enabled' and hit 'ok' -- if you hit 'enabled + lights' then the lights will always stay on
turn off the phone
turn on the phone

now there are 6 screens that you can scroll through. on the first screen, you can see words like 'registering' 'camping' 'scanning' etc. there are also a set of numbers which change slowly, but as you travel they change more radically. in my area of philadelphia, the two top numbers are usually around -95, 49

i'm hoping these aren't related to gps, they are probably coordinates for the celltower that its connected to, but i'm not sure. i've had this enabled for several days now, so there is no harm done.

to turn off the field test, hit 'menu' then go to #10 'field test' and enter: 00 -- or to disable the option completely, follow instructions above and select field test off.

lemme know what you think!

That's just a "field test"
It tells your reception, the number of the city you are activiated in, etc.
Nothing too overly exciting.

What do the other options do, like "Programmed"? It asks you for a date, and then if you try to go to it again, it says "Date already saved".

I just punched that in on my 5190 and got some strange stuff. After putting it all in it came up with a menu with only one option that read "NAM 1". After selecting, there was "Home System ID", "Own Number", and "Change Defaults". The first two had certain numbers programmed, and the third option had several options under it: "Primary paging channel", "Overload Class", and "Group ID".

All these have certain numbers programmed in. And, of course, I have no idea what any of them does. Anyone know?

Logix - The 51xx series doesn't have the full menus like the 61xx/82xx series do. I believe the numbers correspond to your cell phone provider's settings and I wouldn't mess with it unless you write down the defaults.
