What are the worst books you had to read in school?

I read the entire Wrinkle in Time series when I was in 6th grade... I thought they were pretty good.

Also need to add The Picture of Dorian Gray to the list... I've never been so bored reading in my life. Felt like there was no end to that damned book.

Thought of another one.

The original Dracula by Bram Stoker bored me to tears. Of all the books I've read in the last 10 years, this one took me the longest. It just seemed to DRAG and it took me like 3 months to make it through it. The writing was fine and the setting was pretty good, but for some reason it just seemed to progress so slow and was completely unable to hold my attention. I think I ended up reading 3-4 other books during that time.

I can't say that I was forced to read anything that I really hated. Generally we were just told to pick a book from a list of books to read and analyze it. The common things we read were generally just short stories, poems, and excerpts from longer stories.

The only one I didn't care for too much was this one story about a Chinese girl that worked at a factory right before the Japanese invasion. I can't remember the name of it though. I mainly didn't care for it because it didn't really have a point.

I don't understand how anyone couldn't like Fahrenheit 451 or To Kill a Mockingbird. I've read some boring classics before (for pleasure) but those definitely don't fit the bill.

Never in my life have I stopped reading a book after only the first two pages, except for after opening that book.

Edit: And the best book I had to read: Great Expectations. I didn't like it that much at the time, but now I regard it as probably the best book I ever read.

Fahrenheit 451 doesn't fetch my dislike because it was boring. I find the book plain and shallow, and the writing style of the author is horrid. I would not classify as a 'boring classic' in any way (as neither would you).

Fahrenheit 451 I hate; 1984 I like.
