If one were to travel there for say 3 weeks, what are some must see places/cities for fun/scenery (leaning toward the former)?

If you like topless beaches visit Cadiz on a weekend. I stayed a weekend and enjoyed the beach.

I haven't been to too many places, but I can tell you that Austria and Italy are very nice. Italy was especially nice because my cousin lives there and he showed us sights and restraunts that normal tourists wouldn't know about. Austria was nice because we had family that owned a bakery near Vienna and we would have fresh strudel every morning... yum. The rest of Austria is nice, but if you're going to see the Alps, you have to go skiing. The food in Italy is excellent, and there is a lot to see and do, especially in Rome.

I would venture to guess...

1) Rome
2) Paris
3) England
4) Florence
5) Venice
6) Amsterdam
7) Munich
8) Berlin
9) Dublin
10) Prague

These are not my personal favorites. Just the TOP 10 cities I would guess Americans travel to. Of those listed, I have only been to Venice, Munich, and Berlin.

I personally avoid larger cities and crowds. In terms of "must see" cities, I would say Rome, Florence, Paris, England, and Berlin should be on your list. Venice is so-so. Amsterdam is a lot of fun. I also suggest smaller, cozier locations: Cinque Terre in Italy, Interlaken in Switzerland, a Spanish island like Ibiza or a Greek island like Santorini. I typically go for warmer climates when traveling in the summer.

My father-in-law used to do a ton of international travel with his former company-- he's been just about everywhere. He's always told me that if he could vist just one place in Europe ever again, it would be Prague.

Myself personally, I'd like to visit Paris again-- or maybe Vienna, Florence, or Rome.

Clearly you've never been there. Serbia was awesome...dirt cheap, everyone spoke English and was super friendly, great parties.

The top cities that most people go to in Europe are Paris, London, Prague. I think Italy was my favorite country in Western Europe, and I liked the Czech Republic and Serbia a lot too.

Oh man, Interlaken was great...but you end up spending a LOT of money on paragliding, skydiving, bungee jumping etc. As for the Greek isles, I say skip 'em and go to Turkey. The Turkish coast has everything Greece has, but a lot cheaper. A LOT cheaper.
I also recommend Ceský Krumlov in the Czech Republic for a small town worth visiting. It's got a river that winds through it (you can raft down it), a LOT fewer tourists than Prague, and a castle that doesn't charge you every time you turn around like Prague does. You can also rent bikes and ride around in the countryside...it's a lot of fun.
