what are the solutions for combating CD piracy

Make it free, then people won't bother. Seriously though theres nothing anyone can do, the only thing that could slow it down is reeeeally long jail terms and/or death sentences.

Well, there is some CD copy protection that introduces "bad bits" into the music. It decreases the quality, but CD-Roms apparently can't read it. CD Clone, in my opinion, will still copy it though. Ripping would have to be done from an adjacent CD player, and therefore at 1x speed.

The best way, as always, is to produce good music, where most songs on an album are enjoyable, since it is often difficult to find all songs of an album on the internet. Without distribution on the Internet, the damage is not huge to begin with.
Performers who just have one "hit" song or two per CD will always have difficulties with piracy.

If the cdrw manufacturers weren't so nice to us consumers with great firmware there wouldn't be as much problems with cd copy protection being so easy. 😀

When music companies and software companies start making their products more affordable, the need to pirate will decrease. I refuse to pay $20 for a music cd.

If cd's were $5 people would still pirate them. The only thing the record companies can do to stop piracy is release a new format of audio disc's that don't work in computer CD or DVD-ROM's. This will lose them some sells in the beginning but if the only way to get new or rereleased music is to buy their approved player people will do it.

yup, ppl are cheap, and a large percentage of ppl that pirate would do it no matter what😛 stealing is fun ya know🙂 i steal! i get away with it! nyaaa! hehehe
