The fact that they're able to all of a sudden give you an 11% raise shows they've just been fucking you for years to see how long you'd take it. I wouldn't feel bad about leaving them in the dust, apart from your coworkers that didn't do anything but might see an increased work load all the same.

Seriously, this. They can suddenly give you an 11% paybump, but until they took you seriously, they were fucking you for 11% less than you were worth.

I pussied out and didn't quit my job, and have been dealing with this for years. Fuckers won't bump me up by $5k base, opening a $20-$25k higher ceiling and better prospects. Nope, they're happy keeping me underemployed.

Unfortunately, I'm getting shit heaped on me right now and am doing so much overtime, I don't have time to look for a real job in earnest. But looks like I'll have about 50 hours * 1.5 to burn after a few more weeks. I know what I'm gonna do...

It is likely they either saw your active resume on monster/dice, or they use the same recruiter that the other job is using. Or someone snitched.

I would jump. They're just trying to keep you since they probably don't have anyone to immediately fill your shoes. Now they know you've been looking for another job and will think you're disloyal.

I'd expect them to start looking for someone cheaper to replace you if you stayed.

I did it and at least for now it went just fine, my Boss was great about it and understood.

I am off for vacation so it might be a little different when I return...we will see!

my job i quit in July i had no personal issues with my boss and actually liked her a lot as well as the people i worked with (well most of them) but the work environment and project was going into the shitter due to the project management. i wasn't looking due to money at all, i was well compensated.

it was tough to give my 2 weeks notice and my boss tried everything she could do to get me to stay, but once she realized it really had nothing to do with money she knew there wasn't anything she could do and congratulated me and was happy for me.

you gotta do what you gotta do for yourself, not the companies you work for.

Amen! I did the same thing. I liked my direct boss, and the other engineers, I just didn't like management. When I turned in my 2-weeks, they begged me to stay, offered me money, asked what it would take for me to stay. In the end, I took the new job, haven't looked back. Best decision I ever made.

Sorry to come off like that...I am very happy...but on the same note I feel like I have worked hard for it.

And as for the references that I would be foolish enough to be caught job searching I have been / was very careful. I didn't tell anyone, I felt like I was discrete through the process and I didn't complain or bad mouth the company I am currently employed with.

The reason I asked 'what are the gods telling me' is that I felt like it was a coincidence that I got a raise and a job offer in the same day.

I am fairly confident that one wasn't the result of the other, there was no way it could have gone down as fast as it did. I had an interview on Monday and was offered the job on Wednesday.
