What are the names of the best TV tuner software and remote control access software?

I have a Pinnacle Studio PCTV Pro but I don't really like the PCTV Vision software that it comes with, and the remote handling needs some changes IMHO. What are the names of those really good programs to use for stuff like this? I'm talking about the free programs (open source, possibly?) that do it the best, I don't remember the names.. one is a TV viewing and the other is a remote control handling program...

if anyone could help me out with some recommendations it would be appreciated! Thanks!

a little addendum here.. I *thought* the tv software might have started with the letter B while the remote software with the letter W.. I could be wrong but for some reason these are standing out.... if anyone could give insight? thanks!

Dscaler is a good program for watching tv. Not sure about the remote control software though.

VNC, probably TightVNC.

LOL.. not PC to PC remote connectivity! hehe I was talking about a physical remote controller, such as a television remote, and that HP remote that was selling on FS/T a few months ago.. what program is used to control the input from the remote?
