Asics Onitsuka Tiger Serranos. It's like walking on a cloud, and they are really light. They also breathe moderately well for not having a bunch of high tech mumbo jumbo. Another plus is the fit, they work well with a variety of foot shapes, and are snug.

Pretty much defines the comfortable sneaker. They aren't meant for running, just walking and all day comfort. That being said, I know an avid runner that prefers this over anything Brooks, modern Asics, etc.
But how long does the sole last? I've had the ultimate 81, and the sole wore out quick only walking.

You can find super thin athletic socks that are quite soft and comfortable. They also pull away sweat much better than cotton.
I don't like wool socks because they're not elastic enough.
Also cotton is cheap and does the job.

I donated my Ultimage 81 after a week of wearing them. I think they are only made for people with highly defined arches. Hurt like hell.
My Serrano's sole and tread are doing fine after 6 months so far.

I think Adidas is the brand for socks.
Their basic athletic quarter socks are among the best feeling things my feet has ever experienced.

The boys whine when they are out of Adidas socks and are stuck wearing Nike socks.

Ugh, getting home with sweaty socks and putting on another pair of shoes instead of letting my feet free sounds horrible.

I use normal puma gym socks.
I've had good results with nike shoes in the past.

The Rosche's are mostly mesh and keep my feet from sweating which is why I wear them around the house.
I'm not sure exactly what kind of puma socks I have, I just know they were pretty expensive but also help keep air circulating.

In addition, most of the "science"behind athletic shoes is straight up bullcrap. The throwback shoes is more than a fashion/hipster thing...they had it right before the Nike Air vs. pump arms race. Ever since then, every sneaker company in the world has some proprietary non-sense.
Some of the innovations can be useful, but most is just sensational marketing.

Also, learn not to become a heel striker. It's worth a visit to a podiatrist or a good general physician to look at your walk. A lot of people are terrible at it, or have something wrong with their feet, causing back/knee/hip issues later in life.

I've actually been trying to do that. Will take some more practice.

I've been wearing Salomon for about a year now and think they are great. Routinely go on clearance on Amazon too.

If for standing around all day. Ask a nurse.

If for running, go to a running store as not all shoes are equal. I wasn't properly recommended a running shoe till I went to a store and talked to someone. Had to special order wider shoes. D width. No chain can do this, I've asked.
