There are multiple USB 2.0 ports in an onboard USB 2.0 bus.
Is the maximum output current of a USB 2.0 bus 500mA? Or, is the maximum output current of a USB 2.0 port 500mA?

In the USB 1.0 and 2.0 specs, a standard downstream port is capable of delivering up to 500mA (0.5A).

USB 3.0, it moves up to 900mA (0.9A).

The charging downstream and dedicated charging ports provide up to 1,500mA (1.5A).

Yes, the maximum is 500mA per USB 2.0 port. Groups of ports are usually (but certainly not always, particularly with non-PC ports) fused with 2A. So while you -can- draw more power then 500mA, bus integrity might not allow data transfers while doing it.
