What are the intellectual buzzwords these days?

Hey guys. I've decided I'd like to appear smarter but I honestly don't have time to keep up with what's "hip" these days. As you'd assume, it's much harder to keep up with the trends for me here in Oklahoma.

Anyhow, what are the big words the cool, smart types are using these days? I think I've got a little bit of a start so I'm gonna break them down for different topics:

Politics
Corporate malfeasance
Old boy's club

Music
Paradigm shift
Mainstream, pre-packaged
constant, omnipresent, in all types of music

Literature
I honestly don't even know where to start here...

Any help? Keep in mind I mostly talk to twenty-somethings (but also a few in their thirties) so sorta keep it focused on words for that group.

This company's on the fast track to the It List! Blast back kudos all around!

Let's work on you execuspeak. I'm worried about [blank].

Don't you worry about [blank], let me worry about [blank].
Blank? BLANK!?! YOU ARE NOT LOOKING AT THE BIG PICTURE!!

I figured taking a break from California might help me build character 🙂
lol great thread. i dont even know what half of those are suppposed to mean either. maybe add some definitions?
Hmmm...with mine, the political ones are pretty self-explanatory.

Paradigm shift means everybody likes something they didn't used to like even though the older stuff was better...it's probably the media's fault...
Mainstream is what's played so much on the radio that even your parents know about it...so how could that possibly be cool?
Constant, omnipresent, in all types of music basically means that there's something similar about all types of music...

Oh, and btw...what are the hip TV shows and movies to quote? I hget the feeling my Office Space and Simpsons quotes are no longer appreciated as much as they once were...

One thing that I've notice people say to appear more intelligent is that a particular document "speaks to" a subject rather than speaking about said subject.

Political - just refer to any government you don't like as a "regime." In Bill O'Reilly's case, that's any arab government. 🙂

Watch CNN for one night and I assure you you'll collect more than enough buzzwords to pepper your everyday speech.

0o0o0000o0ooohh...i like this 😀

hmm....buzzwords reminds me of corporate talks....

"Let's throw together a task force so we can tie in with our joint venture partner. They don't want to bring anything to the party, so we might have to play hardball. Going forward, there will be some rough spots, but we'll have a Plan B if needed. I'm late for my ten o'clock, so firm up the plan and shoot me an email with your talking points. Our core competencies should backstop any downside and give us a level playing field."

You know what's scary? I just tried to fashion a speech from clicking the button and managed to do it. I can do this in real time, just by inserting a few AND, OR, TO , THE between those phrases.

Watch this (keep in mind...I can make up this in real time...)

If we want to mesh revolutionary web-readiness and seize ubiquitous web-readiness we must embrace 24/7 supply-chains and enable turn-key e-commerce. Along side that, if we maximize cutting-edge channels, repurpose plug-and-play infrastructures, exploit web-enabled architectures, while at the same time facilitate open-source platforms to envisioneer transparent web-readiness, then we will revolutionize vertical bandwidth, seize seamless infrastructures and streamline cross-media markets. Continuing along those lines, our team should optimize front-end e-services and orchestrate 24/365 e-tailers, in addition to e-enable frictionless users and orchestrate plug-and-play vortals and thus deliver granular e-business, aggregate dot-com convergence, innovate interactive convergence and finally transition bleeding-edge deliverables, thus leaving our competition in the dust.

Here's a few:

keep you in the loop
take it to the next level
efforting
list of action items
make this your priority
