I think this is EMI. RMA'ing the monitor will not help. I experience the same problem with my Hitachi SuperScan 753 monitor (a high quality shadow mask monitor).

Well I just went to several different stores and looked at dozens of monitors.
I looked at 4 different Trinitrons. One was a Sony E400 19" 2 were HMD-A440 19" and one was the Sony 21" I think G520??.
keep in mind these were at 3 different stores. Compusa, Circuitcity, and RC Willey and guess what?????
THEY ALL DO IT. Yup every 19" Trinitron CRT that I looked at did it.
So I have personally now seen 6 CRT Trinitrons do it.:disgust:

Well i also looked at every LCD in the stores and none of them do it, but LCDS suck.;)

So I drove on down to one more store and they had some necs, the FE991SB 19" and the 17" Nec,
I think the FE771SB.
interestingly enough the 19" inch Nec did do it but the 17" did not do it.
infact, I think just about every 19" CRT I have ever seen does it.
Maybe this is a 19" and up CRT thing?? I know for a fack LCDS dont do it.
And the 17" Nec sure did not do it.
Strange indeed.

Can you take a picture of the lines? and are you sure its not Moire?

Make sure the power outlet is properly grounded. Do you live near high voltage power lines?

But from what I've read it looks like the monitor is defective.

I don't believe it's monitor related, it has more to do with your connection. The quality of you cable/connection. As I said, DVI shouldn't experience this problem or using a really high quality shielded cable would alleviate it. The problem is called EMI.

Are you talking about the video card cable?
The cable that comes out of the monitor and plugs into the video card?
If so, how can I replace it? because it is integrated into the monitor.

When my buddy came over to try to help me fix the problem he could not see it at first. he really had to sit here and look at my monitor for probably 10-20 minutes before he finally started to see it.
So they really are hard to see. You almost have to look at the monitor in a different way.
I think the easiest way to see it is to open IE witout opening a webpage, (just so it says, this page cannot be displayed or action canceled) Then look there in the white parts of the screen in the corners.

How close do you sit to your monitor? If you have to look that hard to see it, and all the other monitors you have seen have it as well, maybe it's just has to do with the way monitors are made, and not necessarily a defect.

mx1mx1: contact Gosharkss - he's probably the most well-versed in monitor technicalities.

All trinitron monitors have that "problem" you're talking about. Sony licence's out the trinitron technology and so that's why any monitors using it have the black lines.

I believe you're referring to DamperWires that are factored into AG specific monitors. Those are horizontal. I think this thread is referring to Vertical waves.

Yeah, I second this... it's defintately this. Try your monitor settings.

IE Goto www.fileplanet.com and see if on the green background you see these wavy lines. After I adjusted the settigns on my monitor they went away.

I know exactly what he is talking about, and it's EMI. You have to upgrade your monitor cable.

Just my two cents but...

I was running my 19" NEC crt with diamondtron tube with my intergrated video card (i845) for a while before I got my ATI 8500.
I noticed some horizontal lines scrolling down at the corners of the screen and they were apparent at lower resolutions (at 1024x768) and below. These horizontal lines were thin breaks in the image and moved their way down similar to waves. For me, the problem lay in the integrated video or more likely the crappy ramdac it had. As soon as I switched over to the ATI 8500, the scrolling horizontal lines went away.
