3 years ago while a senior in hs I campaigned for Jim Mcgreevy for state governor of New Jersey. That was a
big mistake. In the past few months NJ has been getting out of hand, for instance:

They are now passing legislature to tax plastic surgery. they want to impose a luxury tax on all non critical surgery because they say only the rich can afford it. Thats assinine. All that is going to do is prompt people to get their plastic surgery in NY, PA or Delaware. Plstic surgeants in NJ are going to lose money and business and NJ is going to lose even more revenue

Today we just got a letter in the mail saying that the state is increasing our property taxes by one thousand dollars. THEIVES! how much can they possible take from us? and all for what??? to give this money to lazy bums in NJ so they can remain unemployed.

NJ now has a law that for house sales over $500,000 they are going to tax the hell out of every person that buys the expensive houses. Im not sure about the numbers, but i assure you that they are high. something like a ten percent or fifteen percent for every 1 thousand over 500 thousand dollars in addition to the regular taxes.

democrats are going to ruin this great state. Kerry will probably do the same with the country, but that remains to be seen. All I can say is that most of the social spending goes to nonesense and they just steal hardworking people's money.

replies?

Democrats love high taxes. But only for the rich, because you must punish them for being so sucessful.

taxing plastic surgery nation wide doesnt seem lika a bad idea.... just in NJ is kinda stupid

and property taxes have gone up here as well in the middle of noplace, that extra tax on a house over 500K is insane tho because just about every house in certian areas of NJ costs that much

whats P & N. no not very rich family. my parents do work 10-12 hrs a day though. its a shame that the state is stealing their money. they work hard. The state doesnt understand that when people buy expensive houses now a days its because of very low interest rates. doesnt mean everyone can afford to throw away money for luxury taxes. its not luxury when you have to work so many hours a day, get a paycheck and then have to give it all away to ppl who dont want to work.

P & N: Politics and News. The place for politically-motivated rants and ramblings. Typically means any thread with the words, "republican", "democrat", "liberal", "conservative", etc. in the title. This thread is no exception.

If it matters, I have no problem with the concept of taxing unneccesary surgery, though since it's only in one state you are correct that it'll send people to other states for the surgery. Nationwide tax would be smart.

im not saying its not something we need. but think about it, if you work hard and make enough to be able to afford a 500,000 house why should you pay all the extra taxes? people assume that if others may more money than the avarage person they dont work hard. you should be rewarded for your hard work.

nationwide tax on plastic surgery? okay...it may deter some people from getting a face lift? and then what? once again its a socialist idea of punishing those who are wealthy.

Yes, like the hard work that (apparantly) is invovled in figuring out that this thread belongs in P & N, and should thusly be reposted there. :p

I'd get into this debate but I don't wanna keep the thread going in OT. Suffice to say I think there's much to U.S. and State Tax Code that's retarded.

So you suggest an across-the-board raise of taxes? Therefore, pushing the lower class even lower while having little effect on the lives of the wealthy (other than bitching about taxes that they can afford)?

the amount of hours you work, and how hard you work doesnt matter. there are not many people who can be brain surgents or engineers, but there are plenty of uneducated people who can be miners or janitors or w.e. its supply and demand.

Democrat= Moron
If you are still a moron after 25 your either just to stubborn to admit it you were a moron and want to change (12 step program may be necassary), making money off the other morons, or just a moron through and through.

you assume that middleclass people and upper middleclass people can afford the extra taxes. Plus thats irrelavent. if im hungry and I see you're eating your 5th sandwich does that give me a right to take it away from you because it will make me not hungry and wont make a big difference to you?? same logic. just because someone needs something more does not give me a right to take it away from them.

Last I checked, homes are very expensive in most of NJ (and all the metro NY area period). $500k won't get much more than a modestly-nice 3 bedroom house in a decent neighborhood.

The problem that Democrats have with their tax schemes is that you can tell that not one of them ever took any basic math or finance courses. If they over-tax plastic surgery, then a lot of plastic surgeons will leave the state and take their commerce and personal income taxes elsewhere. The result for the state would then be a net loss. Same thing with property taxes. If they raise those too high then property values could depreciate. Once again, the result is a net loss.

An example in my state is the fight to lower video poker commissions to the bar/tavern owners. State employees think that lowering the commissions will generate more income for the state. The reality so far has been that many bar and tavern owners have gotten rid of the machines or stopped promoting them. Result? Net loss again.

The problem with Democrats is that they consistently insist on binding the mouths of the kine that tread the grain. With the best humanitarian interests of course...
