What are the criteria for locking threads in OT?

I created a thread named "What's up with guys smearing boogers above urinals?" in the OT forum and it was locked. The comment attached by the moderator mentioned that this was a stupid thread.

Looking at the FAQ, item 9 states that a moderator can leave a thread up to show what is/is not allowed. By the action taken, I conclude that the subject matter I posted fell into the "not allowed" category.

So I ask this question: exactly what about the thread is not allowed? The OT forums is chock full of "stupid" threads, and many of them are still around, so what triggered the mods to lock this particular thread? I'd like to understand the criteria mods reference when they decide to lock a thread.

<< I created a thread named "What's up with guys smearing boogers above urinals?" >>

Ewwww.... blech! You have to ask why it's locked?!

<< BTW, afaik, bodily function threads are always locked. >>

that is exactly what i was going to say. i can't remember one being open for very long.

I have a better question. What on earth possesed you to post such a thread topic?

I don't understand your post. First, you post this:

<< The comment attached by the moderator mentioned that this was a stupid thread. >>

Then this:

<< So I ask this question: exactly what about the thread is not allowed? >>

Clearly, the question was already answered.

It is not enough to say that bodily functions are prohibited, because sweating is a bodily function, and I'm sure a thread about sweating a lot would not be locked. Nor would a thread about blowing your nose loudly.

Calling a thread "stupid" does not satisfy me as the reason for locking a thread because it is a subjective term; people who post do not have solid criteria for what constitutes a stupid thread. Calling out specific flaws or faq violations (revolting, obscene, x-rated, vendor) would have been more appropriate.

Teddy, what it all comes down to is that this is a PRIVATE forum. and if the mods want to lock a thread they can. they don't have to give a reason if they don't want to. if you don't like it, there are plenty of other forums on the internet. that mod didn't like that thread, so he/she locked it. maybe they thought it was too revolting for their tastes and for the tastes of members. how do you know that the mod didn't recieve 20 PM's from people that thought it was revolting and thought it should be locked? why make a big deal about it? move on.

Well teddy I can see that is isn't such an obvious topic for all, so for your own person future reference try to understand we don't want to read about boogers. Same goes for other gooey body output. I'd say use your best judgement, but...

Teddy: I'm having trouble understanding why you're fighting so hard over a thread about smearing boogers.

Come on, that's gross! Grow up a little. No one wants to read that, ok. 😛

while I agree with you guys that the thread should be locked, I too was wondering if there were some set OT rules, most of the threads I start there are locked, so I have decided just to post in other people's threads, but having the information on what is/is not allowed would be helpful.

A lot of it is common sense, no illegal stuff, warez, porn, etc. No attacking other members. No smiley art.

The rest is kind of a thread by thread basis. Reposts are generally locked. Blatant nef threasd are locked. And gross stuff such as bodily function threads get the axe pretty quickly.

That thread was so gross I totally lost interest in the sandwich that I'd just had delivered.. and that was just from reading the subject line.Paersonally I think you should be apologising to the community for grossing us out and thanking the Mods for not giving you a week's vacation.

Baffled2 has a good point, I was about to eat lunch when I saw the thread title. I wasn't too hungry after seeing that. If you have to ask why your thread was inappropriate, start a random conversation on the bus or subway about people smearing boogers everywhere and see if you don't get some grossed out upest people.
