What are the best tablets right now?

So i know very little about tablets but now i want one.

I usually use my laptop while on the couch but mostly do web browsing which i think i will be better served with a tablet.

As i understand it Apple does not support Flash? so its out. I need Full Flash and Java capability i want all webpages to work flawlessly as this will be the tablets main use.

Needs to be touchscreen, ,my laptop is touchscreen and i've grown used to it.

Screen size is not a huge issue as long as its 8"+, being able to hook it up to the TV would be a huge plus but not a dealbreaker.

Not worried about battery life much.

negative, will purchase outright. Will use home wifi, or my works wifi if im at work.

Transformer is a good choice, if you don't mind waiting a bit for one. Supply issues.

You could also find 3G Galaxy Tabs on Craigs List for ~200-ish, and use it as a wifi device. Its only a 7in screen though, you waited an 8in+ screen.

Couple coworkers have the Acer Iconia tab, it is pretty much just like the Transformer. They like it.

Rifterut, head down to future shop or bestbuy and try out a few of the tablets. I like the playbook myself, but it is a bit small for your purposes.

I also agree that a home tablet should be 8"+, and am coming to the conclusion that a travel tablet might be nice if it was smaller.

Either an iPad 2 or a Transformer, depending on whether you have a preference for a particular OS.

I have a transformer and it works well. Cost was 400. Acer seemed nice but battery life is shorter. This summer samsung might be worth checking.

I love my Transformer. The dock really makes it for me, especially considering the extra battery it provides. It's awesome for typing an email or a short document, surfing the web, or "consuming" media (music, pictures, games, etc.). The 1280x800 screen really makes it superior to your average netbook in my experiences.

At the end of the day, you have to realize that it is still a tablet though. The biggest hindrances I've found so far are lack of common shortcuts (shift + arrow key to highlight text from current position), and of course the lack of Windows-based programs.

Edit: looks like shift + arrow keys to highlight text is dependent on the program. It works fine in Jota Text Editor.

I don't think you'll ever get websites to work perfect on any tablet on the market right now. You always have to compromise on something.

Flash, for instance, works only decently, not great, on tablets. Hulu and some similar websites won't work. And Java is definitely out. You are left with websites that either work half-heartedly or not at all for the most part.

I'd recommend sticking to your laptop if Flash and Java are big priorities.

You can use Hulu pretty easily with a hacked Flash app. It's not a tech issue, it's a deliberate lockout (probably rights issues).
