What are the best Speakers for PCs?

What is the best speaker for MUSIC being played out of my PC? Games are second and DVD is last. But I really want to listen to MP3s through good speakers. What do you guys think?

I hadn't really thought of budget. Probably under $200 should cover me.

If I have to go above $200 I need to really have a good reason. They better touch me in special places for that price!

Speakers are very subjective. Different people are looking for different things in their sound quality.

Personally, sound accuracy and mid-range is the #1 area of importance to me. Hence, I think the BA-4800's are the best speakers ($140).

Some prefer more bass and more volume. Those people like the Klipsch ProMedia's ($300).

Personally, I don't care for the horn tweeters on the Klipsch. They sound "shrilly" to me. Others seem to like them a lot.

I have not heard the Scirocco Crossfire's ($600), but from what I understand, those are excellent speakers.

So, if you have $300+ to spend, then you have a decision to make. If your budget is below that, then the answer is clear.

(NOTE: I haven't looked as the speaker prices lately, so if I'm off by a bit then you have my apologies. )

I dont think that you can go wrong with the Klipsch ProMedias, Midiland, or even Cambridge Soundworks speakers. It all depends on your budget, however as you start spending more money, why not consider a set of real stereo speakers? A good value set of home theater speakers (Paradigm, Definitive Technologies,etc.) will blow away any "computer" speaker systems. Go to your local Best Buy, they have a decent selection of "computer speakers" and you should be able to test em out and find a set that are within your budget and sound kinda decent.

I think my cambridge dtt2500 sound pretty good, but i dont want to take all these speakers to my dorm this summer, can anyone recommend a good set of 2.1s and a nice pair of headphones?

Either the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1, Boston Acoustics BA-790's or the Altec Lansing ATP3's. Listen to them all, and decide for yourself.

maynerd69, if you'll be listening primarily to music, most people tend to steer toward a 2.1 set up. In the <$100 arena the Boston Acoustics BA790's are tough to beat. In the <$200 category the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's are awesome.

I had the predecessor to the BA790's (MicroMedia) for quite a while, and I really enjoyed them. However, I wanted to upgrade and get the proverbial blow your ears off the side of your head speakers, and this past February purchased the ProMedia 2.1's.

My experience in going from the Boston Acoustics to the Klipsch speakers is that I needed to make the equalizer settings in WinAmp much more flat for the Klipsch speakers. And, I dialed down the bass in the SBlive mixer when I went to the Klipsch. After that the Klipsch system is simply overwhelming.

If you're familiar w/ the THX theme that plays at the beginning of movies, it literally makes the floor vibrate, and you'll hear things in songs you didn't know existed.

In terms of headphones, IMO Sennheiser makes the best ones. You'll pay a pretty penny for a good set of headphones though. However, if you use headphones a lot, then it is a good investment, good quality headphones make a world of difference when you compare them to those crappy ones that came with your cd player. Many people like Graco and Sony headphones as well, you'll find a wide range of prices, from $100, to well, $15,000. I think that a quality set can be had for $100-200.

i have the midiland 7100 plus for home theater, and they are very good. trebles are very clear, midrange is good, and the bass is very tight. if you want speakers for mp3 playback, go for the midiland 7100 (same as the plus but without dolby digital decoder). the 7100 goes for ~$139.

i recommend you check out speaker reviews at 3dsoundsurge.com. their reviews are very thorough.

So for the Sennheisers to sound good you need an amp? I would be running these out of the live drive for the sblice plat 5.1... What if you run these out of speakers?

Eh, I'd have to say the best PC speakers are the Videologic Sirocco Crossfires.

Maybe my decision is biased but I own these speakers along side the Sennheiser HD600 Headphones and I'd say they make a nice pair, since the crossfires have an external amp with a front headphone jack where I can slap my HD600s directly into. *Audiophiles will burn me at the stake when they find out I put my HD600s in this amp instead of a super-special-&amp;-twice-as-expensive headphone amp*

But, this would be breaking the 200 dollar budget and you probably cannot justify it .... at least until you've heard them

I'd have to say i absolutely LOVE the sound I get out of my Labtec 424 Pulse's. 2 Sat's and a bass, the bass is solid and full bodied and the sats give out great midrange and treble. They are perfect for me.


(did i mention i only paid $74Canadian for them?)
