Im holding out for a ATI 9800XT Pro pretty soon. but in the mean time i would like to get a little more out of my GF4 FX5600 256mb the stock freq was 325mhz core & 400mhz memory. i have alittle tweak prog to change it i was just wondering what is the best O/C for stability on this card?, and if i would need to get a better chipset cooler in order to do this?

You?ll need to test overclocking yourself. Get 3Dmark2001, set it up to run only one test, then run it and keep upping the GPU and memory little by little until you either lockup (GPU too high) or you see artifacts on the screen from too high memory speed, then back off somewhat.

My 9100 runs (250 stock) as high as 310MHz but starts locking up around 315 -320, I like a little leeway so the most I?ll run it is 300. Same with my memory, it?s clocked 230 but around 260 it starts to show artifacts so the most I?ll run it is 250.

If that?s an old non flip-chip core then I think they topped out around 375 -380. 200MHz memory, depends on what the markings on the chips are.

Also note that the card is extremely memory bandwidth limited, increasing the core speed will yeild almost no performance increase at all.

i tested it in 3dmark2001 at stock and got a score of about 2404 i think. and i upped it 350mhz gpu clock and 450mhz mem clock and i didnt have any lockups or artifacts, when i tested it a again i got a 2635 so it did a little better.

It still has a stock cooler on it but i do have a fan blowing on it sepperatly . i dont know what kind of temps its getting.

its a newer chip i think i got it for a trade of my ATI radeon 9000 pro, and they bought it in october 03.
