No way, that is way too much stress on the mother's body. A 30 something year old weighs well over a hundred pounds and no way that fat head is passing through the pelvis.

Welfare checks, more taxes at the end of the year and happiness if you don't have any of that.

I'm Selfish, I like my toys and new cars.

The rest of my family (brothers and sisters), have 2-3 kids each! They are strained and always worried about money!

Don't look at me! I'm doing my green part........ No kids= No garbage!
I love Kids, just don't want any :)

yard work and whatever other crap that comes up around the house that you don't want too do that isn't too dangerous for them to do, until you've trained them how to do it

The amount of selfishness that comes out in these "Why have kids threads" really amazes me. Rarely does anyone say something like "There are already too many people in the world" as their reason to not have kids. It almost always boils down to them being selfish with their time and money.

Sure, it is everyone's choice and right to decide whether they want to have kids, but the selfishness floors me.

Well, it's your own body and life. You have the choice. Myself, I'm not sure... it's a lot of responsibility.

heh, those people who doesn't care enough to have kids wouldn't be good parents anyway. It's probably best if they don't have any to save us the society the trouble to care for their kids.

It's true it take alot of sacrifice, financially as well as time, to raise kids. And it takes special person to make such sacrifice, and it's true it may not turn out well each and every time. So it's definitely not for everybody.

And it's also true that the US is becoming some entitlement country, people thinks they entitles to every right there is, democracy, guns, money, job, blah blah blah, but when it's time for them to raise good kids, form a good family so the society can continue to thrive, well it's too much for them...

The fact that having kids is not for everyone is what scares many people off I think. You can't go back once you have kids. You're stuck raising them 'til 18 and that is a big burden to someone who finds out 4-5 years afterwards that they're not cut out for parenting. What do you do?

They're cheap labor around the house from about 8 until their teenage years when they find out that they know everything and they don't have to do shit for you...once they reach that point, they're worthless.

I've always said that babies are like puppies. They're cute as hell when they're little, but they just grow up to be dogs...all they want to do is eat, shit, sleep, and lick their nuts.

Heh, most common comeback when people got nothing...criticize grammar. Like english is the only language in the world, and the only people who can possibly have any idea is the one who writes/speak perfect english. And btw, I get through 2 masters with my english, and it's 2:30 in the morning here and I am more interested in getting my ideas through then writing perfect sentences on an Internet forum.

In your mind, what are the benefits that make children worth having? Instinct to propagate? Recieving or giving love? Societal pressure to "fit in?" Wanting to carry on a bloodline or family name?

Somhow I think ATOT is the wrong crowd to ask this question!

Some of you people really don't have a clue. Too bad that many of your parents didn't feel the way that the bullshit is thrown around in this thread and NOT have kids themselves.

There is nothing like a child and their love. You can have dogs, property, your big toys....but there is nothing like a child and that child's love in the world. It's sad that many in this thread can't see that but maybe it's a blessing that you won't pass on your piss poor views on for generations to come.

Having children increases the chances of your genes being around for another generation.

Based on the responses here, it's a good thing that many won't be passing them on.

The decision to have children is the single most selfish act most people take over the course of their lives.

I don't have an opinion to voice, I just wanted to get some ideas for a section of a paper I'm co-authoring. Some opinions from the peanut gallery about what percieved benefits they recieve from children might make it in.
