What are the basic steps I need to take to overclock my AMD 4000+?

Looking for some basic info on overclocking my AMD 4000+. Right now, it is running at stock speeds. I have a DFI Ultra D SLI mobo and have very fast ram with low latency timings. The CPU is currently cooled by air with an XP-90 heatsink and 90mm fan on high.

Do I need to go into the BIOS during bootup and just adjust the FSB speed/multiplier? What are some of the maximum temperatures this processor can handle under load?

Right now, my CPU is running about 49C under load with the stock speeds. My 4000+ chip is one of the older ones and so I believe it was built using a larger die process - I know this may limit my overclock ability. Thanks all !!!

Yes you do need to go into the BIOS and adjust the FSB. Max temps are up to you, but i don't like running over 55*C on my CPU.

If i were you i'd make sure my backups are up to date then start upping the FSB by small increments. Or for a more scientific approach i'd check out the quick and dirty overclocking thread in CPU.

:thumbsup: lucky AMD users...i wish my temps would actually stay below 55 degrees on IDLE. 🙁

Well, I tried to overclock my AMD 4000+ CPU by adjusting the FSB upwards but the system would not come up (I changed it from 200 to 210). Now, after reading one of the overclockers guide on this forum, it mentions that I may need to adjust my memory to a faster speed.

I have the DFI Lanparty Ultra SLI-DR mobo and I can't find in the BIOS config utility where to increase the memory speed. What am I missing? Is this the next logical step I need to take since my system would not boot up after adjusting the FSB to 210? Thanks!!
